Jerry can lid

Looking to buy a screw on Jerry can lid, I bought with a flex spout that leaks and would rather have the standard old screw on lid.

Steel or plastic...?

You should add what kind of can it is. The older metal ones use a very different type of cap from the current gen plastic ones. Just trying to help!:victory:

Prob. Blitz?

The guess would be Blitz made it though many of the metal mil spec cans come from all over. The important thing is yours prob has a cap that screws INTO the can as opposed to haveing a threaded snout that a cap or spout would screw onto...

Link to an informative 2005 article on Jerry Can types (2.6MB pdf).
The prices and sources in the article are way out of date but it does have quite detailed specs on the screw tops. There is more than one type.

The paragraph on the bottom of page 12 reads:

"My experience with the Blitz style cans is that they leak. They leak with the cap on and they leak when refueling when using the spout. The only jerry can that ever exhibited any signs of fuel leakage was a Blitz can. I’ve got a total of three of these cans; all three were given to me, otherwise I wouldn’t have any."

If it is a Blitz can, it's probably still worth trying to find a new top. You'll never know if you don't try. In addition to this forum I'd call around to local army-navy surplus sources and search them online. That combo worked for me.

Good luck.

Contact Blitz directly

If it is a Blitz can then contact them directly. I ordered some replacement gaskets through them, and it was a very easy process.

Sidenote - I have 2 pre-ban Blitz cans and never have had any leaking issues. Just follow the manufacturer's instructions, and use a screwdriver to tighten ~ 1/4 turn past hand tight.
