figured i'd share my attempt at organizing the rear of my new JKU.
below are the items that get left in pretty much all the time. everything else varies widely depending on length of trip, how many people are coming, weather, remoteness, etc. i usually go solo, but sometimes the GF and kid do come, and our trips range from day runs to a week plus.
everything deployed:
this is also my daily driver, so i wanted to have most items be easily removable. only the main shelf and false-floor are semi-permanent.
- custom false floor made of King Starlite material and attached primarily using the factory tie-down screw holes.
- used Front Runner shelf purchased from a friend for cheap
- RoadPro 12v "lunch box" oven (tips for cooking with it here...)
- CESS 40" foldable stainless shovel mounted with Mini Quick Fists
- Dometic CFX-65DZUS dual zone fridge
- fridge is wired into a dedicated power line, plugged in to the left rear corner with Anderson PP-30 connectors.
- AC power cord runs to same place to easily plug in an extension cord for shore power.
- folding stool tucked in under the shelf on each side.
- another Anderson connector on the right corner for the 12v lunch box.
- on-board-air output quick-connector, runs to under passenger seat using 3/8" nylon DOT tubing.
- used 1" x 2" x 1/8" rectangular aluminum tubing as a spacer to lift the shelf to clear the fridge.
- Sven Saw and Kershaw mini machete strapped to upper roll-bar.
- custom made lock-in/lock-out fridge slide
- split loom keeps the 12v and 120v cords bundled
- a laptop bag from Big Lots holds my recovery gear and fits nicely nicely between the fridge and rear seat. it can still be accessed easily by leaning the seat forward if there is a bunch of stuff tied down next to the fridge.
- gas strut to keep the fridge lid up (~20 to 30N of force and about 10" long when closed works well)
- airline track (S track) for movable, rattle-free, tie down points.
- Pelican 1520 case full of tools and spare stuff like zip-ties, jb-weld, etc.
- factory jack/tire-iron storage area still accessible
- replaced scissor jack with older style Jeep 2 stage cylinder jack.
- FatMax FuBar hammer/pry-bar (good on Jeeps and tent pegs!)
- Extreme Outback tire repair kit (in different case)
- large heavy-duty ratchet strap for helping seat a tire bead
- Penn-Elcom 2U aluminum drawer for server rack or DJ rack (mounting ears cut off). a steel version is also available for half the price (but nearly twice the weight).
- the drawer holds frequently used items... like gloves, baby wipes, bug spray, sun screen, tire inflator/gauge, Power Tank air hose, etc.
- custom tailgate table made from King StarBoard, full writeup here...
all put away:
in progress & future plans:
- custom fold-up sleeping platform that doubles as a separator between the storage area and the fridge. UPDATE - completed! (see post #12 on this thread)
- hard mount Air-Zenith OB2 compressor under passenger seat
- Fiskars splitting axe mounted to shelf
- Maximus-3 long roof rack
- Hi-Lift custom mounted to the roof-rack brackets similiar to JeepSwag's kit.
