How is this material to work with? Similar to working with wood-based plywood? Any special considerations, tools, etc?

cuts super easy and clean with a router (clean edge that is - it makes a mess of little shavings everywhere!). even my Ryobi 18v "edge trimmer" worked well on 1/2" thick material. a jigsaw, circular saw or drill all work just fine too. low to medium speed is needed - too fast with the drill and it will melt. it's sort of like cutting a somewhat green or tar-heavy pine board.

a rasp or file will round corners easily and a fine file will clean up edges without leaving them ragged.

a scotch-brite style kitchen scrubber can be used to hide some mild surface scratches, but it is soft so if you want it to always look perfect it's not the material for you.

its only real downside IMHO is the lack of rigidity. the same thickness in plywood will not sag nearly as much as the Starboard/Starlight/Seaboard. its main advantage is simplicity and time savings compared to coating plywood with a quality waterproof bed liner product such as Line-X or even Raptor Liner.

Good tips on starboard. Another con is lack of colors, and the boards cannot be painted. Black looks great, though. I wish I could small sized pieces of Charcoal gray, but I can only find it in huge sheets from one or two suppliers.
Much prettier than plywood and much more enjoyable to work with. I always use it for making electrical panels, and I'm starting to use it more and more for edge trim pieces and interior panels. I built (building) a similar rear table, though I made the backing plate out of aluminum.

Dolphin gray is one of the common colors. Charcoal gray, on the other hand, never shows up on Amazon or ebay.
