JKUR with 2.5" and 33's

I previously had a JKU with a 3.5" lift and 35's (and plenty of my buddy's have that set up now) - I just bought a '14 JKUR and am making my parts list for build out. I am considering a 2.5" and 33's (keep the COG lower, less tire weight, and will fit in my garage with the roof rack on) but don't know or have really read about anyone using that setup - so my ask here is: if you are running that setup, please let me know what you think (and any pictures too). Would you do it again? Do you find yourself limited at all? What benefit(s) have you personally experienced? What lift (brand) are you running? I also respectfully please ask that everyone who is just going to post about "don't do it...do the 3.5"...etc. - don't.

Thanks in advance!
Ryan

I have the AEV 2.5" lift and 33" KM2s. Personally, I like the setup though the KM2s totally suck in snow and ice. I plan to install the new 34x10.50 BFG All-Terrain KO2 tires AS SOON as they are available next Spring. I've had the setup for 2 years now and have found very few limitations that can't be overcome with careful driving. I've lived in Moab for over 40 years and am not at all interested in a 3.5" lift or 35" tires since I'm not into conquering the rocks just for the sake of "sport." Around Moab, it's the non-gonzo trails that lead to the best views and the most interesting country.

While I don't have exactly what you are looking for, I do have a 2.5" lift. It is the AEV Dualsport XT with geometry correction brackets. I am still running stock tires, but plan on replacing them with a 33" all-terrain once these wear out. I really like the Cooper and Toyo AT offerings at the moment. I don't do any hardcore wheeling anymore so I feel that the increased clearance of this setup will be more than enough for me. I like the idea that a 33 is lighter than a 35, and won't have as much of an affect on my gearing. I run an auto with 4.10s, so a 33 shouldn't affect drivability too much.

Here is a picture of mine with the 2.5" lift, stock tires, and heavy bumpers:

Oh my.... what have we here???? I feel like Chris Hansen is going to pop out any second now from starring at this... hahahahahah

This is the closest picture I've come across that is exactly what I've been envisioning all along.... 2.5" AEV lift, stock tires, ARB full width front bumper, and it's in ANVIL as well!!!!.

Ok, sorry for the partial thread jack.

I'm running the 2.5 teraflex kit that included new coils all around but went with bilsteins instead of the teraflex shocks. I'm also using the Rancho geometry brackets. It rides and drives better than stock.

For tires I am running 285 duratrac's. I really like the duratrac's and have about 27k on them with half tread left.

My main reason for 285's vs 315's and 3.5 lift is clearance into parking decks and not needing to replace driveshafts. Plus, the factory tire carrier handles the 285 spare with no issues.

I'll be trading out of my 2010 once I know if it's worth holding out for the 2017's but if I end up with a 15/16 model, I'll go with 285's again. The capabilities of the JKU on 33's is more than I need it to do so anything larger would be just for show in my case.

Are you running spacers on this also?

I did a TF 2.5" spring lift with Rubi takes offs on my sport. TeraFlex recommends spacers with stock rims and I have run it that way for a lot of miles. I took the spacers off on Monday and the rear sway bar axle connects are near the rim but not touching. There is about 1.5-2" clearance still which I am fine with.

There were some used 35's for sale locally for a good price so I picked them up to see how I liked them. They fit fine with my lift but for sure need spacers to run on stock rims.

I pulled my spacers because I wanted to see if I could manage to keep my rig a bit cleaner from the salt this winter by having the tires a bit more tucked. We'll see how it works.

Doddste- Great looking rig by the way. I'm enamored by the ARB full bumper.

That is a good looking JK. I did the exact same thing with mine.

Now, back to the topic at hand. I did the 2" Old Man Emu lift for the clearnance and have gone everywhere I've wanted to go on the stock Rubicon Wheels. I'll probably go to 33's or 34's next just to fill the fenders a little more. I'd like to try the new 34x10.50 AT tires that BFG is going to sell. They may help improve my mileage. If not, no biggie since it's already terrible.

AEV 2.5 Lift w/geometry brackets, AEV Pintlers, 285/70-17 Duratracs and ARB bumpers front and rear. Love it, no issues offroad and still fits in my garage even with Gobi stealth rack. Rest of the goodies in my sig.

Wow. I couldn't have dreamt of a better response thread than this. Many thanks and GREAT looking rigs. These are exactly what I envision for mine. Going to go with the same setup - AEV 2.5 and 33 or new 34s. Already planning on the AEV bumpers as well. Again...many thanks folks.
