July 4th in Silverton

With a beautiful Utah trip in the bag, next up is Silverton. Planning on Friday through Tuesday.(4th is Monday) If anyone is up for some easy and cool Colorado wheeling for the 4th please let me know. No equipment requirements. Planning it as a shake down for the SAS despite being little to use it on....

No, of course not, they left a day early for Memorial day weekend to boot. But its hard to imagine it wont be ready for Silverton.

make sure you hit poughkeepsie gulch. The rest of the alpine loop is AMAZING like engineer pass and stuff but not overly challenging.

Unfortunately Poughkeepsie does not open until very late. Nothing challenging its more about scenery, history and a cool retreat during the hottest time of the summer

I didn't realize it wasn't open by the 4th. Lake City is also a cool little town as well.

Years Poughkipsee opens, its probably 8/21 average.

I would be interested in this trip. Been trying to figure out when I can take my boys to the Colorado Mountains.

Ours are 4 and 6 and will be there. Like to hit the Mayflower mill this year. Boys will like that. Plan is to set up below Black Bear again in the Trees.

If you're planning on watching the fireworks show in Silverton - stake out your spot early & expect to be surrounded.

I'm not big on the shows - but happened to be passing through late in the day a few years ago, so we stayed for it.

Despite the crowd - it was quite impressive. We were happy to get out of there the next morning though.

We will be camped on Black Bear pass, so we will want to fine a place around the shrine area probably so we can get back to camp all right.
