just a quick tip for everyone with summer coming upon us

A few weeks ago I discovered a small hole in the radiator on my 97 after a quick trip to the landfill with our small trailer and it started spitting out coolant, it's a fourth vehicle for us so I parked the Jeep until I could get around to fixing it. Yesterday I pulled the radiator and dropped it off with a local shop to have the hole repaired and also have a new filler neck brazed on. I looked at the condenser to see its overall condition and could barely see any light through it. So I grabbed my air nozzle and went to town on the condenser. There was so much sand, bugs, and other gunk that came out from between the fins that I had to sweep the driveway after. I can now see light between all but a few of the fins and it should be much more efficient now, it will also allow more air to get to the radiator.

So clean those radiator and condenser fins out, it can only help.

I need to have my AC repaired. I did the same thing you did, and I must have done something wrong(maybe punctured it?), because it no longer holds the cold stuff. I just recharged the system, and it stayed cold for about 5 minutes :(

Bumping this up as a reminder for warm weather approaching, and add the tip of using Scrubbing Bubbles on all of the fins.

Seems to be a lot of overheating threads lately, clean those cooling stacks and replace the thermostat with an OEM unit.

I just did an A/C delete, never used it ( 9x's in 7 years, it's an Soft Top ). and the condenser was getting quite clogged! With less drag on the motor I've gotten two more miles to the gallon around town, haven't been on any long distance trips to calculate Interstate MPG yet. Also, the 4.0L is a wee bit peppier now.

Very good call on the condenser, a definite source for high temperatures!

Thanks little brother for reposting this heads up. Those of us up here where theres lots of mud can really benefit from this.

sorry for my stupid question but what is the best way to spray out the condensor and rad. do you need to pull the out or can you spray them out while in the rig. thanks for the help

With the radiator repair you must have had it boiled, this would clean all the fins, coils and internals as well. Good post and thanks for sharing. Stay cool.
