Nice concept - but renderings are the easy part. To hit that weight it's going to have to be a fiberglass - foam sandwich I would think, but that brings with some interesting manufacturing challenges and expensive tooling. I'll call it at $15 to $20 k per unit if made in Europe and shipped to USA.

The part I find curious is putting the spare tire in the bed. That rubber stink would be powerfully unpleasant if it was closed up on a hot day, and if you changed out a bad tire I wouldn't want the road dirt in my bed afterwards - and getting it in/out would be a chore on a humid day.

Of course it will be a big challenge. To reduce cost I´ll try to find a manufacturer for the U.S..

I decided to make the same nook area for the Unlimited as for the standard Wrangler because one month in Libya showed me that even on sand the speed can be 70 mph and more. The aerodynamic will be disturbed a lot less by the nook area than by a big 35x12.5" tire on the roof. So at least the Wrangler Unlimited driver can save gas. Right and left of the tire is a large storage compartment for light personal belongings. The tire compartment lid has a gasket so no smell can spread out.

Rubber stink?
Dirt in the bed??
Really...?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

For the standard Wrangler I´ll make a plastic lined cover with the same surface as the seats, to close with an airtight zipper so no smell can spread out.

I want to say thank you to all forum members writing so many nice things about my ActionCamper project. I also have to say sorry to all of you because it took me so long to answer your questions, but after being 5 week in Libya testing and having fun, I had to get a lot of work to get done first.

I took 730 pictures ( after sorting out ) >> Photos The Text will be translated soon.

Interesting detail for Jeepers traveling to other continents:
The ActionCamper can be shipped with a standard container while on the Wrangler.
After airing down to the surface of the internal Staun Beadlocks liner/tube you can roll into the container. ( maximum height 228 cm / 89,8" )

Please...don't make me think more of it...
I'm this close:exclaim: to let go my trailer project for this...

The Wrangler is the best customization platform on earth. That´s why I plan to sell raw bodies too, to give the Jeepers an ActionCamper platform.

If you want I could produce a thin outer shell with closed roof surface, so you could modify and fit it on your TJ. You need to cut out a longitudinal middle section to make it narrower and cut out a transverse section in the middle to make it shorter. A lot of work but maybe it's worth it.

Language question

Is the ActionCamper a slide-on or a slide-in camper. Where is the difference? At home I speak German!

When I started writing here I called it a slide-on camper, but somebody told my that I'm wrong and I should rename it to slide-in camper. I had the same thought like you, that's why I posted the question here.

I still prefer our Australian Trayon. 410 kg. dry ,so 920 lbs. to you. No increase in vehicle overall height, quick to erect and take down, very robust. www.trayon.com.au It's mounted on our '06 4.2 TDI Nissan Patrol here.
