I'm new to this game. We have a bigger camper for on road camping. Then we have a lot of car camping gear like a 12x15' spike style wall tent and lots of cooking, coolers, and cots and such for camping off road. We couldn't fit the gear in any or our smaller SUV (We used to have a 2500 Suburban, now have a 2009 Jeep Commander and 2012 VW Touareg TDI). So we went looking for at least a cargo trailer. Well they are about $2800 around here for a standard 4x8' cargo but would need some off road mods, and I figured might as well outfit the inside. Seemed like I would be over $5000 in no time, and I really have no time for a project anyway. So this seems like the ticket. It was $11500 with $308 doc fees and no sales tax so $11808 out the door. I have to drive over next Saturday to pick it up. I haven't seen any threads on this camper but to me it seems like a good value. Was looking at the smallest Geo Pros as well but they are a good $4000 more in our area and nobody has any in stock until late spring.
Also working on a lift kit and new tires for the Jeep, along with a few other mods, but will pick it up with the Touareg as the Jeep with a 5.7 Hemi and Quadradrive 2 has been getting around 12 mpg around town and the diesel will do 25mpg even in town, and can do 30 on the highway. Goal will be to get at least 20 MPH towing home at 65-70 mph. We'll see. Jeep is going to be the hunting, camping, mountain rig, around Montana but if we do long trips like to Arizona, Redwoods, Utah, etc. we will use the stock Touareg which is pretty capable off road as well.
