does anyone know if any of the aftermarket head units from JVC/Kenwood/Pioneer/etc will load Topo maps and can you input direct waypoints and download tracks etc?

I did find some threads regarding loading topo maps on a Kenwood, and it seems possible, but no screenshots or info on usability.

I already have a Garmin 60csx, but I need to get a dvd headunit and I would like to get one that will support the basic features needed to make it useable offroad.

thanks for any info!

I'm running a Kenwood head unit (DDX-8017) and the Garmin built Kenwood GPS box (KNA-G510). You can load topo maps on it via an SD card slot on the Kenwood gps box. I haven't done that yet, but have updated my maps (free from Garmin). It was easily done via the SD card slot.

As far as usability goes, the Garmin interface is straightforward and easy to use. Coupled with the big touchscreen, it makes it simple to use on the road.

I have the Pioneer Z3 Head unit. It's a great unit for music, video and street GPS functions. It doesn't however, allow you to load Topo maps or waypoints.

I have the Kenwood and it wont allow you to download topo or pull your tracks off. I am looking into a carputer as soon as I can find a reasonable touch screen moniter that is sunlight readable.
