Kazuma/TRD Limited Slip?

I was looking to get into the ARB air lockers for my Taco, but reading the new 4WD Toyota Owners mag, on the '99 4cyl Tacoma they are building up, they went with the TRD LSD due to the fact that it is a daily driver and wanted to go with less wear on the drive train. Does anyone have any experience with the LSD? Is it helpfull offroad. And also, are the ARB lockers that hard on the drive train?

Thanx all,

MM

well I don't have a 99, but and 06 and I broke my LSD on the first wheeling trip. I wouldn't have another one. I would rather run an open diff. I do have an ARB air locker on my truck and I haven't seen any extra wear and tear on parts. I use my locker only when required and I engage the front when I really need it. I love them. A bit more expensive and complicated, but allot tougher and when you need to be locked your locked.

First off, What are your expectations with either the LSD or the ARB locker?
Next, what is your budget?
Both are great products and I've installed both units.

Installed a TRD unit in my bro's 99 Tacoma a few years ago- (Paid $200 for the lsd) Basically a ring gear/carrier swap.
Great for a daily driver. You'll need to exercise a little throttle control when accel from a stop when its rainy. It will give you a little edge offroad- but don't expect too much. Don't expect it to help you if you are stuck,

I've installed both front & rear arb lockers on my Tacoma. They are there when I need them and will give you a huge edge offroad. ARB lockers are not going to be that hard on your drivetrain since you can disengage them at the flip of a switch. Any abuse to your drivetrain will be from your right foot & skinny pedal. Actually - ARB lockers do not add any addtl wear & tear to the drivetrain when you are on pavement & they are disengaged.

If you want to compare cost/benefit ratio -
TRD LSD wins hands down for a daily driver-
ARB is not really being used when on pavement.

If you are considering F & R ARB lockers for offroading...consider getting a winch first.

X2

If I'm all locked up and stuck, the winch has to come out :) Although a winch is a better investment first, over lockers.
