KM2's vs ST/Maxx (sorry!)

I apologize for another tire question thread! Need some help deciding.

I have researched replacements for my ailing BFG a/t's (32x11.50's) for quite a while. Had originally intended to get the 255/85r16 KM2's until I saw the ST Maxx's. Then decided on them in same size. Now price is playing a big part.

Went in to get my tire plugged at Discount Tire and they are running some rebates. Here is what three options are out the door with mount and balance.

ST Maxx 255/85r16 $236 x 4 plus mount and balance- $1080
BFG KM2 ". ". " $226 x 4 ". ". ". -$1038
St Maxx. 265/75r16 $213 x 4 ". ". ". -$983

Now here is the thing that is giving me problems deciding. Until tomorrow the Coopers have a $50 rebate and the BFG's have a $100. If you sign up for their credit card then they will double that. $100 off Coopers, $200 off KM2's. So that would total out to;

ST Maxx in 255/85 - $980
BFG KM2 in 255/85-$838
ST Maxx in 265/75 - $883

They would go on a 1st gen V6 Tacoma. They would be street driven 95% of the time. I still want an aggressive tire though so no interest in the more street able tires. Truck will be supercharged soon (it is getting rebuilt) so the bigger tire size does not worry me about having to regear right away.

If all prices were equal then I would buy the 255/85 ST Maxx's but that is a large price difference.

I added the 265/75's because they are large for their size; close to 32" and the 255/85 Cooper's are small for their size at 32.8".

The sale ends tomorrow and I am stuck. I need new tires before a big road trip in October so might as well get them now.

Given my situation what would you all lean towards?

The BFGs are the cheapest and the best. That rarely happens... I'd jump on it.

(I have 5 new unmounted 255/85s in my garage that I can't wait to get on the truck next week)

One flaw in your calculations... the spare. Personally I have the KM2 in 255 80 17 and love them especially at that price.

You are right, figured that in but forgot to add it. If I get the 265/75 Coopers then I could keep my factory spare. If get the 255's then I will keep the factory spare until I can afford another one after the trip.

I know, I know; that is bad juju.

Don't mix sizes, tire types or tread patterns with the spare if you can avoid it. It will cause uneven traction and in some cases binding between them depending on drivetrain setup.

I am literally in the same boat. I really might go to the coopers cause they are actually 1 lb lighter. I thought they were heavier the bfg's.

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
The Coopers work very well in winter conditions (seems to have better sipping than the KM2).

Really? And that 1 pound matters why?

Realstically it it doesn't hahah. That was a Joey answer. I thought they were actually 8 lbs a piece heavier and I was on the fence anyways and figure hey it's lighter so why the hell not. Rotational weight has a multiple of four so 1 lb is equivalent to 4 static, for what it's worth.

The Coopers are better in every respect except clay mud.
I had the KM2s about 4 years ago. Kept them on for about 6000 miles ----- hydroplaned every time it rained and finally got them bought back by BFG after sliding off the road and nearly hitting a fire hydrant on the way to work.
I haven't hydroplaned or spun the tires one single time in over 13000 miles with the ST-Maxx yet.

Mud tires are for mud.
Just my $.02

Decided last night that the extra money would be worth spending for the tires I want. Gonna get the ST/Maxx.

Discount Tire's credit card APR is ridiculous so I am not going to use that to purchase today just to get the rebate. I can wait a couple of weeks and just pay in cash.

Thanks for all of the replies!

Yea I am also going with the coopers. Unfortunately I need to drive on pavement to get to trails, and sometimes for a while.
