Knee Problem in 3-5 hours?

As the owner of two bum knees myself, I'd tell you flat out...only a doctor can tell you what happened to your knee. It's also amazing how delicate knees are. I've kept record of almost every mile I've ridden in 26 years and it's over 148,000 miles. However, I had one bum bike ride a year ago that forced me to push my bike for a few miles and somehow that few miles did the trick.

Now, I've got a meniscus that's gone ratty.

Get it checked.

I'll take meniscus tear in the pool!! Dave, alot of your symptoms are very similar to what I had. It was misdiagnosed several times until I got to an orthopedic surgeon. Good advice from everyone already, find a good doctor if it doesn't improve. The occ. med doctor who first looked at my xrays called it a sprain. The orthopedic surgeon looked at the same xray and diagnosed the torn meniscus right away. Motrin 800's and ice helped before and after the surgery. Good luck

Sports doctors see this kind of thing all the time. May try to get it looked at by one of them. Just a thought!

Having had three knee surgeries on my right knee and am headed for a knee replacement at some future (hopefully at least 20 years from now), knee problems suck. Based on what you are saying, I am going to place my bets on a torn meniscus. That is what caused my third surgery. Unlike the previous two, I never did anything that I was aware of to cause it. One day I was starting to have pain again in the knee, much more then the typical overdoing it I would get in the past. I would have good days and bad ones but almost any day I did too much walking or especially climbing stairs, it would always be worst and swollen the most.

After having it repaired, most of the problems went away but honestly, once you start having knee problems, they will pelage you forever. A number of years after my last surgery (in 2000) I started having problems with pain and swelling again. Luckily I got into a very good rheumatologist who got me started (after the first attempt with another product) on a SynVisc injection treatment, which has been doing wonders for the last 3+ years. I have been able to be more active than I had been in years prior. I still have good days and bad ones. I alway know when I have overdone it, as my right knee becomes very warm to the touch.

If you are still having problems by tomorrow, I think a doctor visit will be in order. Hard part is getting the right specialist that can properly diagnose what the problem is. General practitioners don't typically have the ability to diagnose it and should send you to a specialist.

Good luck bud!

Today i've been walking around almost 100% back. I figure by the end of the weekend i'll be fine.

Weird how something can come on so quick, create so much pain and then go away as fast as it came on.

Something to concider as a possible............Gout

I know its something you would concider old people to have...but its more common than you think.

My first couple of attacks were mild and right ankle, I put it down to twisting my foot in the bed rail during the night as I could'nt see a reason for it.

I had about 3-4 mild attacks as such...

The next one I had was right instep of the foot 3 days of severe pain, I put it down to that I's been on a ladder that day.

Next one instep again right foot..........no way- could not walk at all this time and went to the doc on crutch's

Gout was the what what the doctor diagnosed.

Since then I've tried to regulate what I eat and drink, I've had twinges in my left foot, but 1.5 years down the road I've not had another severe attack.

I have a friend in the UK that's had it since he was 21 and it get's him in the knee's and feet, he's almost 40 now but on daily meds.

There's a whole selection of things that cause it, and seemingly its a bit diferent for everyone.

My doc just went on the following..

Drink to much alcohol
to much beer especially
Love red meat
not fit
overweight

Feel free to tick off those that apply !
