I switched awhile ago when the Hard Parts catalog had tons more upgrade components bred from race technology while BMW simply had key fobs, stainless steel coffee mugs and so forth. Like I said, it looks like KTM is headed the same direction that BMW went in the 90s....the prioritization of talent seems to be shifting to their marketing department.
I don't see it that way, they have more KTM labeled aftermarket parts in their hard parts catalog than any other....along with coffee makers. (Ha Ha!) They offer more dirt models than any other company out there. So they are making their adventure bike a little more street oriented so it appeals to a wider audience. I think for good reason as most people don't know how to ride in the dirt. There are only a few people (collectively speaking) that really know how to put a 990 through its' paces.
They need to keep the company profitable.
Perhaps we will see a middle weight 700-800cc Adv bike from them too, seems like that is what most of the more dirt oriented guys want that anyway. Actually just a plain ol' 690 works for that, you really don't need any of that BS fairing crap or 800cc anyway.
For me this is the perfect ADV style bike...650ccish, big fuel tank, big light, go!!!!!!!!
For two up riding, I would consider that new 1190, though.
It is too bad that the new 1190 style looks like everything else in that class, what is up with beak front ends? Kinda like all modern cars I guess...all look like eggs now.
