I'm having a over the camper rack fabbed up next week and would like to see as many photos of various ladder rack set-ups as possible so I can get my design fine tuned with your ideas.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, no pix, but a few years ago I saw something I thought was really slick. And it was on a general-purpose rack, not a ladder rack, per se...

You know how most ladder racks use four flat brackets that stick out from between the truck bed and the camper shell to hold the uprights? Well, the one I saw used a piece of tread plate (diamond plate, five-bar, etc.) that ran all along the side, from front upright to rear upright, and extended out about three inches from the side of the truck.

That way the guy had a platform he could stand on while loading/unloading the rack.

Seemed like a good idea to me.

Here's what I'm working on. Not the best welder, but it works. I will be adding a center support to the bed on each side because there is too much flex.

GaryMc,

I've been running a customized Crosstread "Renegade" rack for a couple of years now. It has shorter legs and bed rail mounts to keep it all pulled in close to the rig. It's very stout and has proven itself time and time again.

What type of weight/equipment are you planning to carry or mount to your rack?

Thanks for the ideas guys, the welders have the truck for the week. They are an industrial welding co. and do a lot of jobs for us at work, so I trust them. Construction will be of aluminum. Pics to come this weekend when I get back to town.

GaryMc,

I just checked out your recent build thread. Nice job.
Looks like you designed your new rack to be stout and lightweight as well.
Your local guys seemed to have done a solid weld job too. It should handle your RTT and all the additional gear you intend to put up top with ease.

Youngunner,
Looks just like what I am thinking of and adding a cantaltilevered basket over the cab. What size tubing is that? Is it Aluminium?

i like this one... exept i would have the RTT fold open over the back, so you could set up a covered area undernieth that could incorperate your tailgate as a work/cooking bench.

Mine is in the works.....Aluminum tubing, ARB tent, Fiamma Awning, 4 Coolers

The ladder tended to get in the way when I had my RTT set-up like that. Also I try to keep the stove away from the tailgate, too many flammable things in the area.

Mike, which Fiamma is that? Might you have any photos of it extended?

Here Ya Are.
I used the 8' long F35 from Fiamma

I did also opt for the Annex for the RTT, so i felt it better off to the side, keep the cargo access from the bed simple., also side mounted some igloo coolers, with a custom rack to secure them. more pics to come as it gets assembled.

Thanks, Mike. Does the Fiamma need to be guyed and staked out, or it it free standing?
