Not an issue with Defenders per se, it’s whether the vehicle was tested/registered to meet American NHTSA and EPA standards. The threshold for import is 25 years unless the manufacturer released an identical model and engine in the USA when new. This is why you see plenty of 90s imports of sports cars and 4x4, but nothing newer. Anything new is likely on a temporary 1-year permit.
