Land Rover diesel's in the US

I've been looking at a 1987 diesel 90 for sale in my area and I was wondering about parts availability. Now that you can import a 90 to the states (albeit an old one) what is the parts availability looking like? Are the Venders in the US starting to carry the parts?

thanks

Nate

I've recently purchased a diesel 90 but haven't had to purchase any engine parts yet. Most of the body and chassis components are the same as the NAS trucks so no issue there. As far as the motor goes, I believe there are some distributors in the U.S. but (from what I've researched) it's cheaper to order from overseas. In my case, I was looking at a timing belt kit for my 200TDI. If you ship parts from overseas I think you can get almost anything you'd need. Maybe someone with a little more experience will chime in.

Lol not that one, but from the same people. They have 4 more I was looking at one they had done some work too. I haven't seen any of them in person but was going to forgo Texas OU this weekend to go look. I think they want to much for all of them but I was still going to go look.

Only one not so careful owner.

Get the military registration and if you are serious get its military service history. You don't want an ex para or ex marine truck. One drops them out of perfectly good aeroplanes and the other takes them swimming in a salt bath.

The truck will have a 2.5 NA diesel. It'll be reliable enough and you'll be able to trundle along just fine but won't have the poke of a civyy TDi.

I know a few people who have 2.5 n/a's and am glad I have a TDI. I have no idea how much they're asking but there are a lot of good imported 90's with TDI's for a reasonable price

Sounds like a Plan. I talked to them and for 15,000 or 19,000 I think I'll going to stick with my plan to build a Series III from the chassis up.

Anyone got a Line on an 88 or 109 Chassis in Texas :)

Having now had 2 TDI Rovers stateside, other than a few randomly hard to find parts on this side of the pond you'll have no problems with regular maintenance, etc. Anything you can't find here, can always be sourced in the UK. Yeah its a few extra days of shipping but its not everything and often you can split the shipping with somebody.
