Land Rover Discovery Roof Rack (SD to Baja?)

So after a couple of months with my Discovery I'm starting to contemplate selling my Safety Devices Roof Rack in favor of a Baja Rack EXPedition Rack or a Voyager Rack XD style rack. I really like the SD and Like that its a factory rover part, but it stick up quite high over the roof. I had the Voyager Rack on a previous Rover and it was great but I do like how the Baja rack keeps the factory roof Rails and the mounts look better. Can anyone with the new style Baja chime in on how you like the rack and How low it sits? I have no sun roofs so that not a problem.

thanks

Nate

Hey Nate. It may not be relevant, but I just recently put the Baja EXPedition Rack on my LR3. I'll be happy to take some pics/measurements if you're interested? I know the vehicle is different, so no worries if not.

The Gap between the roof and the bottom of the rack might be nice to know but I'm not sure how well it would match up from the LR3 to the Disco. What was your turn around time?

I love the Baja expedition rack on my Disco. Here is my post thread when I first mounted a soft-top RTT on the rack:

I subsequently switched to James Baroud Grand Raid XXL (largest) tent last month. I had to modify (re-weld) the front part of the rack to create an overall flat mounting service at fore and aft of the roof:

Question: will you be mount an RTT? Reason for the question is the expedition style rack may be less useful for you as the Baja expedition version does not offer optional side rail attachments for the back part of the rack. A Frontrunner or (used) Hannibal rack may work better for you if you are looking to haul lots of stuff at the top.

You may want to keep an eye out for the low SD rack, sits a lot closer and maintains the looks & relative elegance of the SD rack.

I thought about that too. I had the Voyager rack knock off and liked how it sat. There just are not a lot of those guys around.

No I wont be running a RTT But I'm not to worried about that as i would only be strapping two large Cabela's Boundary Waters Duffel there, and MaxTrax in the front Basket.

Quite true. I bought a truck just to get one. Literally. (It was a basket case XD, and the cost was barely more than I'd pay for the rack alone so it was worth it after parting out the wheels and other bits). They are out there, believe one was on Dweb not too long ago. IMHO nothing else quite looks right.

I've got a Voyager Overland XD Rack for a D2 that I'm about to install. They custom made the XD (low) version so I'll need to remove my roof rails. I have no sunroofs and wanted to be able to get it in my garage. Drops it down about 3-4 inches. I also like how the Voyager mounts to the rails over the Safety Devices. Doesn't seem to crush up the rain gutters as much on the D2's. I'll try to get some pics once I get it installed. Guys a Voyager are cool and will custom make anything you want.

Thanks Pathfinderheli I had the same rack on my old disco.

This is my old truck with the Voyger XD low bar top. I loved that rack.

Just took these yesterday of the roof rack. Please note the front (basket) part of this Baja expedition rack has been modified to match the rear horizontal level for the mounting of the Baroud RTT. Hope the pics will give you a good idea of the height of the Baja rack relative to the Disco roof line.

I've toyed with selling my low SD rack. Mine was the one being discussed on dweb not too long ago. Message me if you're interested.
