Land Rover guy goes the TLC route

I've always wanted a Hundy Cruiser, but I never wanted to be without a Defender. I had 3 Defenders up until the weekend when I sold my 110. That leaves me with a space in the drive and cash for a cruiser..

So today I'm about to go tyre kicking, but I'm in a dilemma.

There's a 50th anniversary Cruiser that has had a fully rebuilt engine, fuel pump etc, all suspension is polybushed and had a body restore job. 120,000 miles, owned for 9 years by one guy who is a car restoration guy.
I like that it's 'done'.

My dilemma is I originally wanted a 5 speed '03 version. Which for starters is gonna be around £5k more for same mileage but usual uk crusty underneath.

The £5k will buy me BFG's and an ARB roof rack, plus other trinkets....

WWYD.?

Not following. A 50th anniversary will be a 2007. You are saying that an 03 will be 5k more than an 07? Did you mean 40th anniversary? If so, the 40th anniversary is an 80 series--lots to like there, but it is a completely different animal than the Hundy.

Hahah they do break.
Well I went for the hundred. It's definitely a 50th. It came with a glossy brochure saying so.

I really don't think the 5 speed is worth the extra cash or all the hype. I'm happy with my factory locker and all the money I didn't have to spend to go 200 rpm lower on the freeway.

He lives in England. Hence tyre and 5 speed :)

Gawd I love the way they spell "tire". :) Yes, I noticed he was from England. Well, it's another Land Cruiser thing for Yankees to whine about, right? No 30th anniversary 70 series, no 50th anniversary 200 series...

hahah, the 'differences'.

Well I've ordered fresh tyres - 285/75 BFG AT's for it, though unlike over there, there's no real TLC specialists in the UK, an ARB alloy rack is going to take 3 weeks from elsewhere in Europe and the fitting kit is going have to be flown from Australia.

Then i'll spanner my Foxwing awning on it, then some Rigid Industries lights and use it.

I'd love get some decent f&r bumpers on it, but there's no chance of getting anything over here!!

What about having custom bumpers made? There has to be a fabrication shop that can handle that kind of work. After all, the UK is home to most of the F1 teams!

I'm not sure if any of the f1 teams would touch it.

Anyway, here it is with the first mod...steps removed and BFG's fitted.

@stoffrogen.. I have friends who work with plasma tables, I may have a word. :)

@Highlander, as we already have 2 90's, we will sit and wait and see what Lode Lane comes out with. I'm sure Mrs Greeni will be able to acquire one as a company car and we'll inherit it after its done its duties.

Anyway, back to it...ARB roof rack has been ordered for the TLC, weather-tech mats fitted and I have a gun cabinet waiting to go in it too.
