Lane splitting in AZ

SOAZ

Riding in both Ca and Az over the years. I think it's a good idea because I want the option.
I don't aggressively lane split, but there are times that I am next to or in between two "high risk" vehicles (the type that you know are going to drift or change lanes into you) and I desperately want to get out. If there is a large gap to quickly power out and away it's much safer for me.
Also, the safest part of riding a motorcycle in my opinion is on a quiet road or when I get off the line first and get to put a little distance in between myself and the cages. Then I get a minute or two of safe clean air riding before being surrounded again. Land splitting will allow me to move to the front and pull away.

Sure some people will chose to be overly aggressive and get hurt, but that's what life is about. Personal choices.

I don't think drivers should be expected to put themselves at risk to accommodate people who are lane sharing.

But I think they *should* be expected to pay attention to what is going on around them, and look out for motorcycles before they change lanes, open their door, spit out the window, etc.

This is AZ where we can't even get the legislature to ban texting and you expect people to be aware of their surroundings when they drive?

With 90 year olds tearing out of their driveways with out looking for traffic and teens sending texts the only people looking out for cyclists are the cyclists.
