Last minute Tellico Trip NOV 1st-4th

Theres a run a few members of Miami 4x4 are trying to put together that is headed to Tellico in Murphy NC. So I figured I'd see if I could get a few more folks to go! The majority are staying in highland falls cabins. They run about $139 a night split with however many people we end up with. Crawfords is having a group up on the 5th-7th I believe it's SFWDA, and he said his cabins were very full though there still is camping. Again I know it's last minute but figure I'd see if anyone else was up for it. We will be running trails 1,4,and 5 not so difficult but some armor would be advisable. While 1 and 4 are easiest 5 is more difficult. If you have any questions please feel free to post or pm.

Southern (SFWDA) is the regional association made up of many clubs. Not sure what they have going on that weekend. I don't see anything on their calander. http://www.sfwda.org/calendar.html

There is an ongoing lawsuit that they are preparing for and one of the member clubs may have planned a work weekend.

Trail 1 is a gravel road that is regularly graded and runs from Murphy to Tellico planes TN. I have driven it in a Honda Accord. :p

That map is old and not accurate to trail difficulty.

5 is now a gravel road and the water crossing is now bridged. They run Deuces down it all the time and are preparing to do another bridge and that will be the way in for the construction crew.

The loop to take would be 4 to 6 back to state line campground and make a big loop that would take most of the day.

6 might have a few technical spots but anything over 31's with rocker protection shouldn't have much of a problem.

The worst part will be Fains Ford where you have to climb a rock ledge. It might be back filled as they are getting ready to bridge it. When crossing the water becarefull as there is a large rock in the middle if where most people want to go. You want ot keep left till about mid way then turn up to the exit. That may be your last chance ever to run Fains so I would make it a point to hit.

If you take the road north of the campground back to the lower 2 you can get to the rock garden and spectate and people really see what they have. That may also close soon so get it while you can.

I have run that loop in a stock K5 on 32's many times. I have seen it done in a stock Rodeo with 28's but the guy did flog it.

No Booze in the park and you can bet the TN rangers will be checking coolers if you cross the TN/NC line on trail 1. ;)

Yeah I will have to look at the map again I have an updated one somewhere. We were just there in June for SE4RJ and was pretty sure we hit 4 and 5 but if you say they were gravel those certainly aren't the ones we hit, my sliders and full belly skids got a work out, Though there was a guy in a toyota pickup and 31's getting it done. In june I had no lockers and made it due to some good spotting it was a good time I'll have to look at my gps log again and try and match it to a map. I remember Fains ford that was one I though might prove to be more of a challenge than it was I crawled right up wet tires and all. Oh and the rock in the middle yep found it, it was like playing marco polo. And as it was late for me the Sfwda run was this month not next. So camping shouldn't be problem. So Grim Reaper are you headed up?

I have seen 4 where I could run it in 2wd no problem and I have seen 4 wallowed out so bad I stuck my 75 K5 on 35's with Detroit's in both ends and stalled the winch in single line. Honestly I haven't been up there recently but the President of Southern is a member of the club I am in. We have been discussing this lawsuit and right now they are making sure the place is in really good shape and have been filling in any wallowed out areas that could cause any siltation.

Dixie Run was 2 weeks ago so there will be some maintenance to do.

Lets see Atlanta is about 8 hours and we are pulling out around 6 or 7 am Thursday morning sooo about 3pm what you got in mind. If your thinking of a police road block don't bother.

If it was around lunch I was going to see if you want to meet up. I live and work right where 575 splits from I 75.

3PM would be a good time to come through. Much later then that and you will hit the rush hour.

I may be going down to Perry or Tifton on Thursday and may be running back about the same time you are coming up. I usually go on Wednesday but with it being Halloween I need to make sure I am home early to take the kids out. :26_34_3: If I have to go to Tifton it will be Thursday for sure.

Sucks would have been nice to meet you. The following weekend my wife and I are headed back up somewhere for some RTT camping and will try and teach our dog to climb the ladder. It will be an interesting trip.

We got such a late start it wasn't even funny! Hell we didn't even finish 4! I wanted to hit Fains ford but didn't make it so alas no slick rock. Maybe in june if the SE4RJ is there otherwise when your on the east coast lemme know and I'll try and throw together a small group.
