My mother has a 1999 LC with 195K on the clock. Still does yearly runs from Maine to South Carolina. runs like a top.

I just bought a 2000 with 118K and it runs great.
My Dad has a 98 w/ 200K & my Mother drives a 2000 with around 85000, no problems with either of them ever.
Between the three of us we've had a few 80s, an FJ62, a 40, and half a dozen pickups.
All have been outstanding.

In the hundy used market, more oft than not, you can usually subtract that first 60-90k mile break-in period spent in mall parking lots and picking up kids at school.

Do people think it's worth looking for the 1998-1999 models with
the factory locking rear differential? These are few and far between,
and often have a premium price.

Or should we just look for the vehicle in the best condition, and add
an aftermarket locker?

I really haven't seen a big difference in price when I have looked for 98-99 models...they are just not cheap...people are still asking 14-15,000 for a LC that has 150-200+K miles on it...crazy...the one thing that I have noticed in looking is that I think some people just buy them and drive them without any care to maintenance, etc. Dump it and get a newer one...many between the 90-100k mark didn't have their 90k service done. Probably didn't want to see the bill for it:)

I have locked vehicles before and it is awesome...My wife has Atrac on her new 4runner and I can't tell if it kicks in or not...I just like the fact of throwing a switch and knowing it is there...I plan on putting an ARB up front.

Just some random thoughts...Mike

You will know when ATRAC kicks in on a 100 because it will sound like something broke. The number one hate about ATRAC for me.

That's pretty much how I picked up my '01... it was at 93k or so and the lady exec that owned it traded it in on a new BMW rather than spend the $2k'ish to have the dealer do the work. As a part of the deal I had them get the 90k service (t-belt, serp and water pump) done at the Toyota dealership and I drove off in a like-new, 1-owner LC that looked to have never seen anything more challenging than a speed bump.

It also helped that I bought it right when gas prices were peaking and the sales guy couldn't understand why anyone would want to buy this gas-hog SUV with gas prices soaring over $4 per :wings: It was sort of funny because they had it listed on their website, but it was buried in the back of their lot and I pretty much had to find it for the sales guy (who didn't know an LC from a Tahoe).
