leaving the 80 series behind thinking about 95 discovery

I did the switch the other way around years ago. I went from 1997 5-sp Disco to a 1994 80 series. Granted, I had to "learn" how to drive an automatic since the Cruiser is the first ever auto I've owned in my entire driving career. To this day, I still often attempt to "use" the non-existing clutch when starting the engine or when getting off the freeway/highway after a long drive. I still own a manual transmission car so all is not lost in this more and more automated vehicles in America.

I miss the Disco sometimes. If I had the parking space I would of kept that around. But I had to get rid of one to get something else.

Doubt there was something wrong with it. It had 210k km's on it, full service history, well looked after late model '98 D1. I owned it for a while in South Africa. Many, many hills around. With the aircon on it was a real dog, wanting to stall when you would try to drive of on a hill unless you'd keep the revs up and slip the clutch... NO torque... It was reasonably ok when you would keep the revs up. Just a little 2.5 diesel, no torque when the turbo is not spinning. My 3B turbo intercooler in my 109 is a completely different animal :smiley_drive:.

I did love the D1 for everything else though. Spacious, comfy, good aircon, quiet inside, good handling with swaybars front and back...

I have to admit that torque from stepoff is a bit limited , I noticed it stepping from a 110 V8 into the 130 300tdi :):smiley_drive:
my 90 with the auto greatly masks this effect . and saves the clutch from getting a beating !
