Led Light Bar

The FX-R is super tight depth wise and takes some effort to get the mounting depth right, but the output can't be beat for the price. It also fills up the the housing nicely when you use the panamera shrouds.

For sure, the exchange rate sure can be a killer. We can work something out when the time is right.

Back to the topic of LED bars, I am considering going with this unit from Morimoto based on the price, low profile design, output, fog lens and the massive 10 year warranty. I would mount it in the bumper/valance opening as well since that is mostly dead space that isn't well utilized. I deal with the guys at TRS quite often for my retrofit parts and they are stand up people for sure.

I purchased and installed the light bar mentioned above. It should be noted this unit was listed at 24" and was changed to a much more realistic 27" after my purchase. In any case it fits great in the bumper valance opening and still maintains a mostly stock appearance unless you look hard at it. The install was a piece of cake as it bolts to the lower lip of the bumper (hidden by the valance). The outer-most diode on both sides is covered by the bumper, but considering how well it fits and it's low profile appearance, I think I can live with it just fine! I will get an output shot once I get the switch wired in.

That looks awesome Scott, the front now looks like it has a toothy spectacled grin..

Thanks, it actually appears even meaner now as I built another set of projector lights with the black housings. I call it my desert setup, that way I won't care too much if they get damaged. I will be taking the van from Barstow to Vegas offroad in a week so we will get true performance specs for this and the new Weldtec long travel kit (fingers crossed the van gets built in time!).

Photos of the main lights (low beam only) and with the led bar on. The bar is aimed pretty low as my suspension is changing this week, but the output is impressive.

So are you "building" HID light conversions or just an avid tinkerer?? Those look ************** and would look even better on my van :Wow1::sombrero::Wow1::Wow1:

Digging that front receiver too. Would love to see a close up of that and the cross member if you ever get the time. I am planning to make something similar.

Thanks guys

I'm using LED bulbs in those housings... They're OK but still not fantastic. They have a very wide spread which is nice for seeing in ditches at night but it also means they don't penetrate terribly far down the road. I'd like to go with a set of projecter HID's sometime.

I made the receiver myself. 3/8" thick angle iron bolted to the frame rails, 2.5" x 2.5" x 1/4" box steel as the cross member between them. Recovery hooks are bolted to the 3/8" angle iron.

Not BC... Close though :) Hinton, AB

Not to scale or anything... just threw together this model to give you a better idea of how I built it.

Cross member is 2.5" x 2.5" x 0.25" square.
End plates were some random angle iron I had laying around... not sure what the exact dimensions are that they ended up as.
The receiver was purchased at Princess Auto.
Flat brace plate is 1/4" thick and I think it was 3" or 4" wide.

I have 3 - 5/8" bolts per side going up into the frame rail through the angle iron end plates. Total of 6 bolts.

It's not exactly the same as that diagram, but at least that gives you the basic idea. The angle iron end plates are a little differently shaped than the diagram shows.

I built it in such a way so that it was as high as possible and as tight to the bumper as possible so it doesn't project out of the front of the van very much. I didn't find any aftermarket ones that were as high or tight as I wanted so I built my own.

Nice stealth placement of the lightbar in the bumper.
.
Just a quick comment on LED lighting for headlights. I installed 5" x 7" Truck Lite bulbs in place of the stock 5" x 7" chevy headlight. These lights are an amazing transformation from stock. Highly recommend them.

If anyone is interested in real high quality LED lighting, Baja Designs should be at the top of your list. USA made, quality serviceable optics, multiple beam patterns and extremely good fit and finish. I mounted a Squadron Sport flush driving beam light with the amber lens into the driver's side rear door of my van for an offroad dust light. The angle of the door pitches the beam up a bit, but the output is spectacular (1850 lumens at 20w) for such a small unit. I will be putting a set of the Squadron XL or XL80 lights on the front of the van as soon as funds allow.

I just found these pics on the Chevy forum of Rigid Duallies mounted behind the grill.

I'm planning on doing something similar but with a 20" bar.
