Leer camper mod help. pop up style

Hey all, Im looking to do some modifications to my Leer camper. I currently have a sleeping platform built inside with storage underneath and short on head room. So i'm considering making the roof open up like a Maggiolina RTT with canvas sides. Ill have to "scalp" my camper. fiberglass in aluminum channels/supports in the lower piece so the top will close down onto and make it waterproof. I was hoping someone could link a build thread to me/suggest canvas materials. or if I should just build my own camper that telescoped down kind of like the older pull behind campers from years ago.

I like the idea! Might be easier and, possibly, cheaper to buy a maggiolina , cut up the floor and graft it to your camper. Especially if you like one of the models with a more complicated lift mechanism.

With that said, I'm fully supportive of you starting from scratch! Creating something from nothing is good for your soul. : )

Have you made any progress with this idea? I have always thought that something like this could be done using standard camper shells. Very curious if you've made any progress.

Can you hinge the camper shell to one side and fabric the air gap instead of chopping up a good shell? You would need some sort of flap over the tailgate for a tent door or something. Maybe mount a linear actuator to the fender well for lift and a few latches to hold it shut.

I wanted to do what clutch posted long before they made a kit. Anyways at the time when looking for air cylinders I found them rather expensive lol

hey guys, no nothing just yet, my mom passed away a few weeks ago so its been tough and busy. With that said,
I'm redoing my current sleeping platform set up, going to make an isle down the center(ice chest and larger dry bin) with the stove and shelving on the drivers side, and on the right will double as a the seat to sit while cooking/shallow storage underneath and will be the same width as the isle so a filler piece will slide over and turn a little over 2/3 of the back into a sleeping platform.
Back to the camper shell itself,
I like the Flip Pac and Wilder Nest type but not big on the profile of the campers. But with my idea I would only be adding height to the camper area and not adding additional room like the FP / WN. Just having trouble deciding if I put all the time and money into my current camper or just craigslist one that has a slight raised top and build a complete camper this summer or possibly a whole camper box that replaces my bed. Last trip to CO/NM we (g/f, 2 dogs and I) had to deal with storms/wind/and freezing nights so being able to move around would be nice, but at the same time I don't want a huge "grandpa camper". I know I cant expect earth roamer living out of a truck camper.
I was hoping to find some ones build thread for inspiration.
