You don't need to replace those quick connectors t the heater core, they are just there to speed up the assembly line. You can take them off the hoses and just put the hoses right on the heater core the old way.
Your coolant shouldn't be pink, it should be orange unless you have replaced it with sighting else?

Yeah, I deleted that BS on my '02 F-150.

I started that party changing intake gaskets and disturbed the intergalactic balance of those stupid connectors so I had to redrain the coolant and tend to those too.
