Got $40 in mine so far. Gets down to 14f no problem. Same compressor (BD50F) as the Big Waeco's. Draws a little more then the ARB. 5-6 amps but looks like maintaining 28f at 75ambiant in the shade with a 50% per hour duty cycle. Trying to find some lower draw fans for it. The one on the Condenser is pretty big unit that is nominal at 24v. Is drawing about 1.3 amps at 12v. The inside fan on the evaporator is a little better but still .89 amps.

But I'm a bargain shopper and a lot of it was salvage parts including the Compressor.

Sorry I spent $14 on a digital thermometer for it (not the barrowed one from the kitchen). So I have about $55 in it now.

This forum continues to amaze me. Who would have thought that someone would/could build their own portable fridge!:wings:

Yeah, still a good price....I have a stand-alone AC\DC converter already so didn't see the need to spend extra on the AC model.

I found a good fridge deal....

I got a Waeco CF-50 and the protective cover for $588.35 shipped to my door.

Purchased here

I wonder why the 40 is more expensive than the 50???

Yeah that is strange...

I know the next best price I found was $650 shipped from polyperformance.com after a little discount and that was without the cover. I passed on them cus it wasn't in stock. Normally I would support my local/forum dealer but my wife gave me a budget so I had to shop around.

I need a build thread on this! Please? Like where you sourced the parts, and what they're out of? I've been thinking about building something like this but getting the local HVAC guys to help me do something unusual is like pulling teeth. They think you have to have a multi-million dollar corporation to design/ build anything new.

Trying to find some lower draw fans for it.
Have you tried 12VDC computer fans?

Anyone received an order from this outfit yet? Everything up to snuff?

Just curious before I pull the trigger...

Got mine yesterday, woot...wooot....wooooot! Does not have the new digital temp. readout, I think that may only be available on the DC/AC models and only in Oz...

It does have a light inside, which will come in handy....Heading to Ouray on the 15th can't wait to use this thing!!!!

Thanks for the update! I, too, have been placed on a budget for this purchase by the Procurement Committee. Your good results may help sway her, er, I mean them to a positive vote!

On the 12v thing, do you think you will be happy with just the 12v capability? And that is the 50? We have discussed it and, in our circumstances, we believe that we have no need for the 110v. Also, funny that I have not seen mention of a 12v only unit from Waeco, even their company website...

Thanks again, have fun on your trip and be sure to report back with your results. I need all the help I can get!

Yes I got the CF-50 DC, if you ever did want to run it on AC you could buy a converter something like this:
