Took the factory dash center console out of my '02 Z71 Sub, didn't need its CD jewel case pocket or cassette deck. Fabricated a custom replacement to hold future CB and dual-band HAM radios.
Found some close-matching pleather to upholster it with. Made the retracting rolltop-style door using oak-veneer plywood strips with a styrene backer. Made an interior chassis for the radio and will hold a small fuse panel and have mounted a 120mm near-silent computer fan for a cooling updraft on the radios.
Will be replacing my defunct analog OnStar dash panel with a aux switch panel holding 6 switches for all my future extras, including a main power for the radio console.
