Lights are cool and practical. Sometimes I leave camp before the crack of dawn or get to camp late and it's great to light up everything around me. ;) My rack and rock lights are also handy when deploying my roof tent in darkness.

My setup (fairly simple & uncluttered)

2× Hella 550 55W fog lights tucked down low but out of harms way, wired to work w/low beams or switched independently
2× 55W K-Mart driving lamps (early-'80s vintage I think, USA-made), wired to come on w/high beams or independently
2× 55W backup lights (cheapie $20 china ones), wired to work when shifted into reverse or independently.

I've had thoughts of putting a 20" or so LED bar on top of the bumper (or maybe just switch out my driving lights for LED ones), however I'd change out all the LED emitter chips for ones that put out better quality light if I was to go LEDs. Someday maybe lol.

since I'm often leaving for work many hours before the sun contemplates hitting the horizon, or coming home many hours after the sun has departed, I need the extra light. Not to mention I love going for a night drive in the mountains, when I was younger it gave me a chance to clear my head and get some solitude. Not to mention for many years I did pizza delivery, so increased lighting was a plus. At present I have a set of PIAA 001XT and PIAA 510's Ion crystal fogs on the front, and a O'Rielly Auto $19.99 special for extra backup lights. In a pinch I carry two Golight's that I can throw on the roof if I need them. Used to have enough extra lights to light up a landing strip, but after a massive wiring failure, all are gone. Will get around to redoing the wiring and lights again.

The other part of increased lighting, it's not always about seeing your way around, it's often about being seen or saving a life or a situation. Years ago, I had a 2wd Mazda pu that I had prerunnered, 4 KC dayligths on a bed bar facing forward and two facing rearward, as well as two amber fogs on a push bar. Those KC's saved a life late one night when I was on one of my drives. A car had gone off US6 into Clear Creek Canyon W. of Denver, four teens were thrown from the car, two managed to get to the shore, one was clinging to a rock in the river, the other sadly his body was found 2 days later. Had it not been for those KC's we would not have seen the one clinging to the rock, even with flashlights, where was at we couldn't see him. I was able to light him up so that when the first rescue vehicle arrived on scene, they could throw a line to him and drag him to shore. I was credited by CSP and Golden Fire with saving his life. Also, used to make the drive from Denver to Hastings, Ne. after work to visit my g/f. Would take a 3 day weekend, leave work at 8 pm on Thursday and be in Hastings by 4 am Friday. In the late 80's, I-76 and I-80 were dark and desolate at night, many times I was glad to have those lights.

That's a luxury. I am out working before the sun comes up and long after it goes down sometimes. Getting back into some of my photo spots in the dark is a challenge, I will take as much light as I can get.







BTW, Your truck is really nice. It reminds me of the '79 blazer I drove for decades but yours is much nicer.

A refeshingly honest answer!

I always try to be honest.

Whenever someone calls me out because I say something that they don't agree with. I follow it up with, "Prove me wrong."

I've been proved wrong twice.

Anywho, I'm now an LED convert. Need to actually convert the lights that actually matter and then I'll be good to go!

I am a light feind. I drive ALOT in the night with roads littered with Moose. Not nice to hit one of those. I have hella HIDs up front for night time driving and truck lite headlights as well now.

I always try to be honest.

It's just good to see someone say it because all too often people try to justify their decision with some super complicated reason other than just saying I did it because I like it!
But of course you're always going to come across someone that tells you you're wrong.....That's the best..Me: I like it! Other guy: No you don't!

The reality is I never had a problem needing off-road lights in the first place as I don’t drive at night plus I’ve never been a fan of having the front of my truck (or the sides, or the underneath, or the rear) looking like a JC Whitney catalog exploded on it with every imaginable lighting accessory

For me night time is for sitting around the campfire enjoying camp food, adult beverages and star gazing, not for trail riding :camping:

I have a pair of these side-facing, 24W LED lights on my T100. I think they were about $50/set on Amazon. I really like for setting up camp and arranging my SAR gear when we get called somewhere at night.

They're also angled slightly forward, which is nice when you're driving around slowly trying to find a trail junction.

I just installed Phillips Ultra whites in my JK stock housings, for me this is enough for now. I may wait and see if cost go down regards to bumper fog replacements. Other than that, I'm good.
