Congrats on the new Trooper.

285/75/16 will fit no lift. But speaking of lift, you might want to consider installing some OME929 coils. They will lift you about 2" but are worth it for the increase load carrying capacity.

I don't think a lift is about fitting bigger suspension, but as Steve hinted, getting springs/shocks that don't suck.

Yeah...the stock Trooper shocks are very soft and cushy, fine for driving around empty, but you will bottom out easily with that kind of load. The OME coils are a sweet upgrade, and aren't that expensive, around $170 give or take. I love the 929s on my Trooper.

I've got a quote in at Sierra Expeditions for a HD OME lift. Like I said, we will see what I can get away with doing when it gets to my driveway.

If I can push off tires this year (at least until its time for snow tires) I will be ordering a OME lift next week. It's either lift or tires.

and yes, stock shocks are horrible. OME shocks are awesome but I also loved my KYB monomax shocks (Tire Rack sells them for $59 a corner) on my old trooper. A bit harsh at first but after about 1000 miles they were smooth as butter. Then again, it was a commuter vehicle on 95% paved roads and not a "off the beaten path" vehicle. I would recommend AGX shocks on any Trooper over a factory grade shock and a factory spring.

Actually I meant to say coils, but that comment applies to the shocks too, as you noted.

Tires are getting very expensive, going to cost you more than shocks and coils combined.

Firestone Destination AT's perform awesome and very affordable. Like the trooper, I think they are a great kept secret. The performance, longevity, and price make it a great tire for those who 2-track, dirt roads and pavement. I had them on my last Trooper and they were great for what I did. Its what I plan to get again.

I've always considered the Firestones Destination A/Ts, I think they look really nice. I just shyed away from them because of the bad rap Firestone had for a while. Maybe I will try them next time.

There is a huge misconception with that ordeal. I think both sides were just as guilty. If you Google the subject, you will read and make judgement for yourself.

There are millions of Firestone's are on the road today, worry free. I personally have 100% confidence in them.

The Trooper is home!

I'm now torn between putting money into my bike or the Trooper. haha. At first glance, the Trooper needs brakes, an exhaust, a new belt and a tank full of gas. After that, I will be ready to take it for a maiden voyage. Does it really NEED some Old Man Emu love? I'm not 100% sure it does. Does my bike need panniers, I could really use them right now....considering my motorcycle has been transformed to a daily commuter.

Has anyone considered turning the rear washer fluid tank into a water tank? How big is it? If I could find a new one I would consider trying it.

I've only put 10g of gas into my new trooper since ownership. I've been on my KLR so much I feel like I am giving my new trooper no love.
