Lift a F 450 like an Earthroamer.

I have done the same thing. My spring guy said I could go with block on the back, instead of rearching the springs. The longer coils cost $150.00. My spring guy said he thinks?? that if I only go 3 inches I do not need the extra front end work. He is not sure. If it does not work at 3 inches, then I am stuck with a truck that no one makes the correct lift for. I did find a shop that had lifted a F450 truck. There were no problems that he told me about. But he did admit the front on a chassis cab is differant and did not know of a lift.

I just got off the phone with Fabtech. They have never done a chassis cab. He did not know what parts would work or not work.

I don't believe there are F550 pickups, just cab chassis. So how do they say the kits fit a 550. Was there an 2008 F550 with a factory bed? I suggest calling some fabtech dealers, even out of area. Some of them will know what to do.

There is a guy up the coast from me a bit with a factory F550 pickup. It is a very large dually setup and actually looks a little silly, but I know for a fact they exist.

The Fabtech website (and many others) are misleading when they mention F450/F550 components. Many advertise F450/F550 stuff that is really only suitable for the F450 pickup, not chassis cabs. The "sales guy" is quick to say no problem, but when you start talking to the tech guys the story changes. This is also true for many of the dealers. Unless a vendor or dealer can show me they've done one, color me skeptical.

The only option appears to be roll the dice with quality components (coils, springs, shocks), see what OEM stuff does not fit, and custom fab suitable replacements.

Yes you can buy a 550 pickup. It is rated the same as a 450 Chassis cab. It has a three stage rear spring pack. So the ride is not to rough when the truck is empty. The CC has a single 8 pack. The 550 is the same body as the 450 and the 350. The only differance is the fender flairs.

I'm a bit fuzzy, but the F550 is only a cab chassis, but there is an outfitter right next to the factory and if the dealer orders a pickup box the truck is shuffled over and the box is fitted, then it is delivered to the dealer.

But there's no 550 pickup frames. The dealer may have a third party do. There are 650 pickups too. There are also hummer limos.
I pretty much have the Ford Truck order system memorized, including the body builders docs. I would have noticed a 550 pickup.

For those of you that have been looking for a lift for a F 450 and F 550 chassis cab. I will be taking my truck to both Superlift and Skyjacker companies to let them see a F450 chassis and let them figure out what will work. If you are interested in this type of lift? Let me take a head count to give them, as possible sales. Maybe they will work us a deal. I will start a new thread for a head count. If that is all right with the MODS?

That is all I want also. Is your axle shaped round or square or round? Both companies have parts for the round axle but not the square. Take a look at Rize Industry. also Camburg suspension.

I'm sure you already tried www.deaverspring.com.If they don't have something they can point you in the right direction.

Jeff Crosby at Deaver Springs has been researching this issue recently for my F550 chassis cab 4x4. He has proposed a system of custom rear springs, custom front coils, and upgraded shocks. I'm currently exploring the viability of using the stock radius arms and steering components.

Eddie, since the custom Kelderman system used by ER does not look an option for most of us, it may be better to move this thread to your Domestic thread on the same subject.

Hunting around to see what has been found on this.

DIY style lift for the Ford F550 Chassis/Cab. Mine is a 2009. Looking to achieve a 3" suspension lift.
I have found a number of sources for front lift and steering components, but the rear is less clear. BIG parts?

Would love to hear others that have achieved the "poor mans Earthroamer" suspension lift, and happy to share my progress.

here's my lil beastie

and..... the project
