Little half day trip, Micro Adventure. 223 miles later...

You ever see different trails on a map or maybe drive a few and think "that would make a good loop!" Well, I saw one and was itching to go and ride it.

I didn't check the mileage or think about it too hard. That might have made me reconsider. Would I recommend this as a half day loop. NO. Unless your crazy. If you do happen to be crazy, this is a GREAT loop!

I started out this morning after sleeping in until about 10 by putting my larger capacity gas tank onto my KTM 450 EXC.
At about 11:30am I headed out of Phoenix. I hate traffic. I was itching to get to some dirt.
The plan was to head for Lake Pleasant first and then take the back way to Crown King. Then off to Cleator and the town of Cordes. I hit the 17 at Bloody Basin Rd and headed up the freeway to Cordes Junction to gas up.
Then back to Bloody Basin road and over to the Sheep Bridge at the Verde River. Then I just took the forest road 24 all the way south to 7 springs and into Carefree and Cave Creek. From there I linked some side dirt paths down home into Phoenix. All before it was completely dark.
A lot of fun and a great 223 miles of riding.

The Route.

The new gas tank. I love craigslist.

Just scurrying trying to get off the pavement.

The turn for the backroad to Crown King.

This road is still pretty nice. It doesn't get rough until later.

This trail has changed a lot since the last time I drove it. Its now too hard for a stock SUV to make. Not impossible, but I wouldn't advise it.

Lots of old mining remnants and old cabins.

Nice! And the bike is sweet - kinda makes me want one too. What is the range with that fuel tank?

Nice trip Tim,

Good time of year too.

Last time I was at Sheep bridge (Labor Day weekend) that truck had just gone over and had all its undercarriage and tires too! Crazy how stripped down it is now. Wow, they even pulled the tranny and engine. Buzzards didn't waste anytime.

Great pics.

Jon,
the range is a lot... Okay so I don't really know yet. The stock tank got about 100 miles on one day before reserve. This one is an extra gallon. Brings it up to about 3.3. I don't think I could have done the whole 223 miles on it, but I could have made it pretty close at best. I need to figure out the range, but in a place where I have some extra fuel nearby, like on the guys bike I'm riding with etc.
Leave the quad world and step into the two wheels of fury.

The paint is surprisingly good on it for sitting down there! I was also glad to see that there wasn't as much trash down at the bridge as last time.

Yah, I think no matter where I live in my life. I'll always look for used cars in Arizona! The heat just hammers the paint, batteries, and rubber trim.

Where are the hot springs at?

Near the blue circle. From where you are facing, you go down to the left. There is even a little concrete pool to soak in.

Dang! I had no idea there were hot springs there. And we were almost parked on top of them.

I guess another trip will be in order. BTW, nice trip Tim.
