Loading a Motorcycle into the rear

I've been collecting photos of systems etc, and there are some really nice ideas out there, nicely implemented.

One thing that I did come across was someone commenting on the paperwork headache, at each border crossing you've to handle the paperwork for both the truck and the bike. If your doing a lot of borders quickly, it's another headache. I think they mentioned that some border or other had an issue that the registered owner could not drive 2 vehicles in at the same time, so they got a little (lot?) confused when someone wanted to bring in 2 vehicles, but just drive one.... anyone any experience of this?

Also, anyone got any feel for what extra weight this involves? I know it depends on the system to hold it up, but are we looking at an extra 200kk? 400kg? more? (Plus the weight of the bike).

Like you say, depends on the bike, but I'd plan on no more than 500 Kg. If it's a lift system with platform, that'll easily hit 150 - 200 Kg by itself. Then add on a big ADV bike...yeah, it can be weighty. But even if you do a hitch mount, they can handle quite a bit. I've got a factory hitch that handles 1000 Kg tongue weight, so no worries with that if you need it. Plus since this'll be fabbed you can design it however you like.

I road a dual sport bike (Suzuki DRZ400s) for years and rolled it in and out of the back of my van by myself using a folding ATV ramp. As long as you have something wide enough to stand on you should be ok. However, the higher you have to go, the longer your ramp should be to lessen the angle.
