locker LC vs a non-locker LC

I would get a 100s then , I just saw one on Crgl for $13k ... v8 + ATRAC and your set ! If expo is what you want you cant be the 100s. After all it was rated the best expo truck out there ..

I would, but I'm actually offloading a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport for something like this - part of it being to not have a monthly payment/insurance - [edited to remove ethnic slur. If you know enough to write "No offense" then you can be sure someone will be offended - Chip Haven]

I got into off-roading a few years ago. The first year the truck was unlocked front and rear. I was utterly amazed at were the truck would go. There is a reason why only a few models have front and rear lockers, for the vast majority of the places you would drive a truck one it is not required. I would add armor and a winch before a locker. If you stay on camping type trails the few times where a locker would have got you through you can pull cable and winch through. Don't get me wrong if you are going to do challenging off-roading the lockers will add to where you can go.

Only have a CDL and only used it once in a snow drift in my own driveway. I don't travel where front and rear lockers are required. I've driven my LX through some, for me anyway, hairy stuff and never had to take it out of 4 hi.

Personally I would rather have a truck in excellent condition without lockers than one in not-as-good condition with lockers. You can always add them later if you need them. I found my 80 in Texas over 10 years ago. It was in great condition but didn't have lockers. At the time I badly wanted one with lockers. This truck was too good otherwise to pass up so I got it. Absolutely no regrets. Flew to Houston, drove for 24hours back home and it has required very few repairs beyond routine maintenance for the last 10 years and I've used it a ton! I bought it with 110K miles, it now has 260K miles. I wheeled a lot of moderate/difficult trails without lockers for 8 years until I added a rear Aussie locker a couple years ago. The 80 is very capable unless you are spending a majority of time in difficult rockcrawling situations. Even then it will do ok, but just require a good driver and a little more patience. Adding a locker (or two) later on if you spend more time in the rocks will address any lack of performance you might think is still there.

Bottom line is, no lockers is definitely not a deal breaker in my mind.

I'd trade my locked rig for a rig around here that I know to have 35k original miles and is pristine. With the amount of abused rigs, i could always swap the diffs and go cable in the future... Less electrical doohickies to screw up... I even removed my vacuum front drive on my 44 since I hate not being able to push something into gear...

My 80 is not factory locked, but if I were buying it NEW and had the option, I would get them. We just bought a Rubicon for my wife, so it is double locked,(the Heep was her choice, but I said no to a Sahara and made her get a Rubi with 4.10s and lockers and 32" muds). I have no need or plans to lock the 80. It goes where I need without.
