haha, yeah sorry...front bumper. (Part # LMP-XJF840100 $299.00)

No coffee yet this morning...:D

The only negative I've ever heard is that its protrudes a bit farther than some models, which could hamper me on some trails, but I can live with that.

-beefy tow points
-winch ready
-bevelled lower surface for clearance and "slidability"
-rock solid frame mounts
-reinforces steering box mount
-full width crash protection for the wilds of san diego parking lots
-solid place to mount exo if I go that route in March

-looks pimpalicious

I simply couldn't find any think in the sub-$300 range that had anywhere near the features this one does with-out going "used". I really like the Detours Backbone, but I want the frontend protection of a real bumper. All I have to do is add uprights, rather than having to build the
WHOLE bumper as with the detours...

:D

Well, folks it had arrived today on my front porch when I got home from work! I wasted no time ripping the nicely packed outer wrap off. I'll post some pics soon. It's smaller than I thought it would be from the grill to the leading edge. I'm very pleased so far.

Back from ventura, complete with a cold/flu. I feel like crap. I'll try and post up some pics tomorrow while I toddle around my house in my slippers sipping tea and moaning softly...

Alright. bumper installed. VERY easy. I mean VERRRRRRY easy.

This bumper, as I had heard prior to getting mine, fits like a glove and basically was able to be installed using finger tips to start the bolts and a regular 15mm and 16mm socket and ratchet. Thats it.

I took a bunch of pics that I'll try to post tonight.

This bumper does require trimming and or removal of the airdam and some of the bottom edge of the front stock fender flares, but I've got mine installed without trimming. (Just looks a bit funny) I wanted to wait to see it in the daylight to break out the skillsaw.

Ok so here goes...thanks for waiting!

Required stuff:

(1) Logans metal bumper. Helper was not included in package. :)

Required Tools

-Ratchet
-15mm for bumper bolts
-16mm for steering box bolts
-10mm for fender/air dam support bracket.
-can of PB blaster
-BFH (for re-shaping bottom-leading edge of fender. You could also just trim it, I guess. I did a bit of both)
-exacto or other sharp knife for trimming flare/fender liner

My package arrived well packed and in good shape. Thanks, Jamie!

I started by prepping the metal. I scrubbed it with goo gone and mineral
spirits with a wire brush to get any oils and as much "scale" off as I could.
Worked very well...

Included in the package were Driver side mounting plate (more holes), Passenger side mounting plate (less holes), and the winch fairlead mount. I was thinking I'd have to add the fairlead plate now, or risk having to pull the whole bumper, but I'm pretty sure i can get even my gorilla paws in behind the bumper to thread the screws. Nice design. Plates are 1/4", I think.

I then shot it with some semi-gloss rustoleum enamel and let it cure overnight..

On to the install. This one was a nail-biter. I had heard horror stories about the two steering box bolts breaking during removal from a lot of people on NAXJA. After talking to a few blokes here in socal, though, I came to realize that my particular specimen, having resided in AZ before here in San Diego, should have no trouble.

Still...for good measure: I DOUSED the sucker:wings::

and...

Bingo: Both steering box bolts...

And all six bumper bolts, came out with very little fuss.

Remember to support the bumper as it comes off. The fog light harness is still attached in two places (though easily disconnected) and this vaccum(sp?) expansion thingy sits behind the passenger side.

I'll, eventually, permanantly remount. For now, its a bit floppy inside the bumper wing, but doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I didn't get any pictures of the plates by themselves, sorry. That's one of the coolest features of this bumper is that you can install the plates, and THEN the bumper. Very easy.

The plates only go on one way, and then the bumper slides on like this:

I had to bang and whang at the leading-lower edge of the fender to get the bolts started, but i did it with a small hammer. Nothing major. If it wasn't already 10pm on a weeknight I would have marked the fenders, pulled the bumper and trimmed with it off. I had work today, though, and I didn't feel like DE-installing it..haha! Who's impatient?:coffee:

So, tonight, I went ahead and trimmed it up, and bent the lip of the fender up inside and hammered it flat leaving a nice smooth interior edge that looks clean on the outside and won't catch a tire, hopefully. :) The brackets that hold the air dam on are a 10mm I think. There are also 5-6 small screws holding on the front of the air dam that came off like butta. Those are in the 4-6mm range. (sorry for the lack of detail, I was gettin' tired out there tonight. :))

My drive to work today felt great. I felt much more protected and the front end didn't hardly sag at all, even with my tired-out, stock suspension. From A to Z, this bumper is one of the best products I've encountered, and if you search over @ NAXJA, I think you'll see that sentiment reiterated heartily.

Regards and Happy Holidays...Brian.

Looks good.

So, hey, did you paint your Jeep after all? It's looking kinda satin black in a few shots. Or is that just the lighting?

Yeah, the whole truck, except for the roof, is satin. I'll probably wet sand it a bit and then put a second layer on, but even with just the first layer, I'm VERY pleased with the results and the decision just to refresh the stock colors. (rather than color-changing)

The best part is that I have about $25.00 into it. :D
