Certainly not a place that a fellow would take for granite. The mountains through that area are so unique. It has been a while since we have been through there and we get to missing it and wanting to get refreshed.

My wife and myself climbed Mt. Whitney on Sept. 1, 2000 which was my birthday. Fantastic hike and area. I watch a lot of old movies mainly B&W on TCM that were made in the Lone Pine area and the Alabama Hills with Whitney in the background. Thanks for the pictures.
Very Nice! If the weather holds I'm planning on heading up to Horseshoe Meadows / Cottonwood Lakes area the first weekend of October. Will be a bit brisk at night but not too bad. Planning on hiking to the top of Mt Langley if there is no snow at that time.
My friend and I climbed it in 1970 when we were 20 yrs old. August and Whitney Portal was lightly populated. No advance reservations necessary. We signed in and trudged to base camp with waay to much weight. Hiked to the top and back down to the campground the next day. I remember an old German guy with a rucksack and also guys asking us if we had beer at the top! Slept in the Falcon wagon that night at the campground and drove home to San Diego through blistering heat and no A/C the next day.
Thanks for the photos!
