long term 101 project

Making up the small panel's wasn't to bad, but the larger ones caused some difficulty bending a crease line to line up with the bottom of the door tops. But every panel became easier the more i made, trim to shape, clamp in place, mark lines for rivets, drill holes, take panel off, put sealant around frame, replace panel then rivet in place.

Driver side went without any hitch's, other than the ancient fuel tank deciding to spring a leak when i was adding extra bracing for the side door frame :campfire:

Decided no to go to large on the size of window's, so used these window's that are made for horse box's. So far they've not rattled or let in water like normal land rover sliding windows.

Used the same on the other side, but with a static window in the front for pulling out of junction's

Then time to start on cladding the roof, rather than use 2mm alloy like the body. I ended up using 1.5mm mainly down to cost really. If at a later date i want storage or access to the roof, i'll put tread plate strip's on it.

A week later, after an mot and three quickly applied coat's of paint and a makeshift interior. It was festival time, torrential rain on the first night resulted in one leak on the roof. Luckily i'd brought sealant with me just in case. The make shift jerrycan/fuel tank caused it to breakdown in the queue on the way in, due to drawing in air then draining the battery :(

Luckily a fellow 101 club member was there to give me a tow start 3 days later

After the jerrycan incident, i needed to fix the fuel tank. It was far to thin to be repaired by myself, and as it was mainly running on lpg. I decided it didnt need a 22 gallon tank. So i made up a half size tank, using some of the fitting's off the original, then attached it to the original tank carrier320941_10150311832622483_556697482_8380321_233397145_n.jpg

At some point i'll add a storage box beside it, made a dummy tank cover from the side of the original tank.

The interior is pretty bare, when not used for camping. Ive started to add tread plate to the rear section's at the moment to protect the 5mm marine ply used to clad the inside.

The sink unit and shelving take ten minutes to fit
shelving.jpgsink.jpg

The bed fits in front of the shelving, its basically two bit's of 4x2 timber with four pieces of ply that fit on top with cushions over the top. Never thought to take a picture of it when in use last time.

Now the part that makes it usable, the old body was great for standing up in. But 95% of the time wasn't needed, so the obvious solution was a flip roof. Only bit that really had me scratching my head was the canvas, had some crazy quotes ranging from £90 to £420.

I could have had the canvas attached permanently and be folded up more than used, so mine pops on when needed. Takes ten minutes to fit, not had any issues with the damp/cold at all. Maybe at a later date, i might get it made to be permanent.
