I just returned from a two week trip to AZ, CO, and UT... 4k miles total. I created more room in my JKU by removing the back seats. I built a deck that is level with the back end. It provides me with a storage area for extra gear like my med pack, spare winch line, dog food, tools, etc. I mounted my ARB fridge to this deck behind my drivers seat, and this leaves the rear cargo area for all extras. All my camping gear goes in a thule bag that I attached to my Gobi rack.
Storage in the JKU is only limited by the imagination
