Width is listed as 86.5". The wheelbase is 130.

Congrats on a beautiful FJ! There aren't may left here in the North East, definitely not in that condition.

without mirrors 86.5 with the elephant mirrors ( after 2000) (its over 125)

here is a test done by one of our H1 forum guys in Germany, look at the angle that takes to roll over the H1 LOL ( THIS ONE HAS 2 INCH TALLER TIRES AND 2 INCH LIFT SPRINGS)

AM GENERAL CORP. advertised the H1 to go 40 percent side slope, but that was for insurance purposes , it can handle over 45 degree not percent .

I will be lucky guy if my rover can take 25 degree.

I think anything over 102" requires a "wide load" placard here... Although my neighbor has an H1 without the wide load signage.

I try never to drive south of Ventura on the coast, and then from San Clemente south it becomes more human again. I used to hang out in Smell Segundo and San Pedro, but it's been a lot of years...

I think if you want to leave it a column shifter, you are going to be stuck with three gears. You could maybe get an overdrive, but that would mean non stock looking stuff as well.

i see. i dont want to touch anything on it, so i guess i will stay with 3 speed. whats the max speed i can drive with that? without over revving the motor ? is 60 mph ok? should i put tachometer?

sorry to derail, but you have mirrors that are 20 inches wide?

and I would go All terrain on the FJ.

Wow...she is beautiful!! Congrats.

I have a '65 which was a life long CA car...only been in FL for 6 years, of which 5 of them with me.

I love the column shift...Yes, I would prefer a floor shifter and I have seen conversion kits for around $250 but I would never convert it. I want to keep it as original as possible and I suggest you do the same.

Like 1911 posted, my 40 runs great with 87 octane (original F motor) and I routinely hit 55 mph with no problems.
I also run BF KM2s, size 31 X 10.50 X 15 on aftermarket steel wheels which is the tallest size I could fit on my stock height 40.

I find them to be extremely quiet and I run my 40 topless.

I live in the Sunshine State.

Congrats again!

elephant mirrors , those are after 2000 year model large ones , each one is about 12 inch long, and there is 4 inch distance from the body

thank you very much sir :) thats what i was thinking 55 mph is the max i would go, . those trucks are hard to come by in original cond. so i will keep her the way it is. the only thing i dont like about it is the last owner added a roll bar, its bolted on, i can always take it out,

the front hubs are manually lockable. how about the center ? does it come with center diff lock?

ERIC

No; center diff locks are usually only on trucks with full-time 4WD. 40's are all selectable 4WD.

WOW that's something i didnt know , so when i engage the 4x4 do i have to luck the front hubs? or thats for going true hard places

Yes. If you don't lock the front hubs there will not be power to those wheels when you shift the transfer case into 4WD.
