Looking at a new 2012 LR4

Yes same width.

Major LR4 Changes from LR3
Facelifted front end (new bumper, grill, lights, fenders - added inlet on drivers side), Redesigned fender flares (slightly different design at the ends), Rear bumper has a slightly different appearance. Major change to interior and new engine. Almost everything else is the same as the LR3.

I test drove an LR4 when I was looking for LR3s.

The exterior is definitely more pleasing to the eye, I think, than the LR3 -- from a "whole car" perspective. The LR3 definitely looks a bit more utilitarian, for better or for worse.

The interior shocked me though -- it's much closer to a Range Rover than any other vehicle Land Rover has ever released. It is absolutely AAA luxury and far outshines the LR3 in that regard. I would be very hesitant about spoiling such refinement.

I don't see the LR4s dropping in price as quickly as I anticipated -- certainly not as fast as the LR3s and Range Rover Sports. I think the word is out on the street that you can drive these for a good long while without issue.

Folks, keep it up and I'll end up getting one for myself. I'm already trying to figure out how much lighting and sound equipment I can fit in :). My wife is pretty negative about the brand. She's read lots of bad reports on the high end Range Rover and she's worried the LR series won't have the same problems. Plus add some dubious video reviews on the net warning people of long term reliability of any Land Rover....I may forward some of the links listed here and let her ask more questions.

But seriously, as much as I love my Ecobeast and it's great on the pavement gas mileage...an LR4 is much more suited for the type of Forest Roads we have out here. As far as difference in appearance between LR3 and 4? I'm a truck guy. That's number 40 on the ten most important things I need in a vehicle.

You'd be amazed at how much they will hold. That square rear end, flat floor, high roofline, and extremely heavy duty tie down points will hold a ton of gear. I'm tapping this on a phone, so not sure if this link will work, but try it:

While not hands on familiar with the LR4, i have an extensive amount off road experience in an LR3. I have lots of images of LR3's doing their thing in my galleries.

Want to thank everyone for the wonderful responses. The local dealer is trying to hard sell the HSE model, when all I need is the base model with heavy Duty package. Maybe later.

Not too up to date on the packags/options but you'll want the NAV. Getting the display will allow you to get the 4x4info screen. Very helpful in watching what is going on with the air suspension/wheels and for troubleshooting.

I thought you got the display no matter what?

LR4 without NAV still has a screen, it is smaller. Not sure if it displays the 4x4 info.

I would get the HSE with NAV, lot's of interesting stuff is being done by the guys on the disco3.co.uk site to add cameras and functions to the NAV screen and system. You will have a hard time finding HD in the states. Had to order mine (I wanted other specific packages), took 3 months. Well worth it.

The base model without navigation is very very basic. I doubt there are even any available. It's worth getting the HSE just for resale and future trade value. No one and I mean no one will want the base model when its time to trade. With the current $2000 rebate you should be able to get an HSE for $48k to$49k. A demo for even less.
And you will never find a base model with HD package. If you have never shopped for a new land rover you have to understand that availability is not like buying a Ford or Jeep. Dealers are very constrained when it comes to ordering. A dealer may only get to order a handful of Lr4s at a time. I hate to say it because they are such DB's but you will find the most inventory at LR Paramus in NJ. That would be the best bet. Or maybe a dealer in CO or AZ where people go off road.

If you're shopping at Land Rover Chantilly, Richard Grzesiak took care of me very well and I couldn't have been happier with the overall experience.
