looking for a 4runner

i'm selling the rover, and searching for a 4runner in the $10-15k range. looks like maybe a 2000-2002 (4x4 of course). i have a tacoma with 70k on it, and have heard awesome things about the reliability. but should i worry about purchasing a 4runner with 100,000 miles or more for a daily driver? what should i look for when purchasing? i want to get a limited 4x4. any input is appreciated.

100K miles on a yota its just now broken in :D
Ive got over 200K on my 99, no problems, runs great. I would look for a 1996-2000 with the E-Locker, but thats me, lol.

Here's what I would do:

If this WON'T be your daily driver, I'd get a 99-00 Limited or Highlander Edition (later called Sport Edition. You can tell it's a Highlander by the scoop hood. They also only come in Green or Black). With the Limited, you get the multi-mode 4WD, which allows you to put it in 4WD in dry pavement. You also get the option for a rear e-locker. The button is located to the left of the steering wheel. It will say R/R LOCK.

If this will be your daily driver:

I'd get a 01-02 4Runner. Doesn't really matter which trim. Limiteds come with leather and auto climate control, if that matters to you. Sport Editions come with a titanium interior and sport seats...and the hood scoop, of course. :D These 4Runners also come with VSC/TRAC (skid and traction control) and multi-mode 4WD. It can be very useful if you're in snow, gravel or rain. BUT, it can also be a nuisance, too, but there is a simple mod to turn this off. No rear locker option for these years---you get a center diff lock. However you can always add an ARB unit later on, if you'd like.

Good luck on the hunt.

x2 and a 5 speed if you can find it! 160k on my 97 with normal maintenance with no major breakdowns. I've only replaced the clutch (just did it), 1 O2 sensor and the valve cover gaskets. I fully expect it to go to 250k. You should be able to get a nice 3rd Gen for $10k and there are mods-a-plenty!
