Looking for advice on which options to add to NorthStar 850SC

My wife and I have decided the NorthStar 850SC fits our needs and we're getting ready to put in an order. One of the main uses will be surf trips to Baja so I wanted to add a roof rack for the boards but found out that the only weight bearing portion is the very edge of roof. Does anyone else have racks on their NorthStar popup? Do you get on the roof to secure items? If not, what method to you used to secure items without getting up there? I'm having a tough time seeing how people tie stuff down without actually getting on the roof.

Thanks

My 2000 TC800 rod holders for the lack of a better term are mounted on the eges of the roof.. Through bolts go into the camper with plates spreading the load. They come through right on the back side of the bars. I have Yakima bars which go from side to side. In order to load you'll have to get a collapsible ladder like this. Mine's 20 yrs old and never missed a beat. It collapses into a 4x4 fencepost shape. https://www.campingworld.com/7'-double-sided-rung-ladder-20319.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAsOmABhAwEiwAEBR0ZhF2vviP17BFyG5_5W-021XMZ7m0KJWhSbJGSL5J_zYOAhD-ZKsHdhoCtrgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I you pm me your address I can send you some pics.
