I have had both exact vehicles. I regret selling my 1st gen 4runner 2 years ago. Eventually I'll end up with another 4runner as a 2nd vehicle.
From my experience and research... adding in some headers alleviated heating up the number 6 cylinder in my ol 4runner. Sounded good too.
The soft top also added some awesomeness to the ride.
