Looking for the Golden Trout fishing spot as seen on TV

I saw an off road program on cable that had a bunch of guys going Golden Trout fishing in the Sierras. Great program, nice scenery. Well they were led by a guy in a Land Rover. He took them in but wouldn't say where the lake was. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I would love to drive in and check out that location.

Look to the lakes South Bridgeport Reservoir. Above Twin Lakes and Mono Village is Barney Lake. I've had success there but it’s a bit of a hike.

First off....I saw the same show some time back and I am almost certain they were in the White Mountains east of Bishop.

Secondly....golden trout are not relegated to that one area and can be found in most Sierra streams at 8000' or higher.

I think I know the spot they went but I can tell you a few other spots West of Bishop with Golden Trout. Last year we went in early in the seaon and killed it on flys.

I really am more interested in the driving adventure than the Golden trout. I know there are many places to catch Golden. I really liked the fact that it appeared to be a fairly straight forward drive into to a mountain lake where you can camp.

I agree I think it is near Bishop or Lone Pine. I'll check the lakes you mentioned on Google earth and see if I spot roads.

I know the one place they went is between Bishop and Big Pine to the West. It's 20 miles on a fairly easy 4x4 trail. The starts in Bishop. Tops out at just over 10k feet.

Wow that Coyote Plateau area looks like a great trip. I think it may be where they were. That is now on my list for this summer.

I think it is in the Golden trout wilderness out of Kennedy meadows area, between hwy 395 and the South eastern Sequoia national forest. There is Kennedy meadows road off the 395 just out of Lone Pine that will take you into the Golden trout wilderness area or wrap you around and down back into Kernville area which has some off the best fishing off the northern Kern river, all barbless, catch and release zone.

Yep. Lots of good fishing and exploring up there. A few drive to lakes and streams and a few excellent hike to lakes. One lake, Thunder and Lightening Lake, sits at almost 13k feet and the fishing is superb.

It looks awesome up there. Keaster has been trying to get me up there but it hasn't been in the stars. I need to make it happen.

It's gonna be a cold week up there. I'm going to try and head up some time in June and also head over to the Whites.

The place Keaster is going is probably either Coyote, Funnel or Rocky Bottom lakes. When I was 6 months old my parents started taking me up there. I think I have been up to the Coyote area every Summer for the past 41 years. We usually camp at the Baker Creek and hike and fish from there. It's a great place but getting a little over crowded now.
