Looking to buy 30-06

Nice rifle Dave, you will need the non lead for the North Rim hunts. 30-06 seems to be popular all over and is a good all around caliber as mentioned. Happy hunting.

Go for a neck shot when you can, anything much more than about 100 yards is probably beyond this rifles and rounds capability of an accurate heart shot and any other shot than above is probably a waste of meat and harvest imo.

If you ever go out with a professional guide you might want to remember that a shot taken and a drop of blood found means the hunt has ended and you go into recovery mode. If there is no recovery after the blood trail is followed the hunt is still finished and will be paid for.

Still, sit or stand hunting or whatever you want to call it, continues to be a favorite tactic.

6mm is a nice game getter round for anything less than about an elephant,

with a well placed shot.

I ended up getting a bull calf on my last day. It is succulent. Clean lung shot, dropped on the spot. When the bullet fragmented, it nicked the spinal cord. Ended up with ~70# in the freezer.

I had 10# of ground done as Italian sausage and the rest as steaks, roasts, and ground.

My wife made a roast last Sunday that was marinaded in Bourbon, brown sugar, cranberries and orange juice for a couple days. Baked until 140 at the thickest point. Juicy throughout. I made a lasagna for my office mates on Tuesday. A big hit.

So when can we come finish off all that delicious young bull? It sounds great! And apparently your wife is an outstanding cook!

My old 30-06 (1952 Win Model 70) has taken a number of elk from cows to 5x5 bulls (220+lbs of pure red meat hauled out close to 5 miles) and if you do your part, the old 06 will always come through.

I am still waiting for my permit for Colorado moose, big horn sheep and mountain goat. I hope I'm not too old by the time I finally pull the tags! 61 years young now, but if I have to wait another 8 years like I have so far, it just might be too late.

I have handloaded everything from 110 gr FMJ for turkeys to 200 gr Nosler Partitions for a failed grizzly hunt. It is a wonderful, versatile old cartridge.

Enjoy!:coffeedrink:
