Perhaps that's why it's for sale? Can't register it and maybe some sucker will buy it and it will be their problem.

3rd Gen + diesel = AWESOME!. If it was half that price, I'd pick it up and have it registered here in alabama.

There wouldn't be any problem since the car is a US made vehicle. All he did was an engine swap so it wouldn't be an issue.

Haha... Oh, if only it were that simple!

When was the last time the Japanese mfgrs imported a Diesel anyway? 1987 pickup for toyota... Nissan basically never bothered other than the lovely Maxima Diesel and a few of my 720's. Isuzu had diesel Troopers, but only in the '80s. I can't think of a single one after about 1989. I'm sure there are a few, I just can't remember any right now.

Obviously you have no experience dealing with the legalities of engine swaps.
It would be a big deal to make that diesel legal in CA.

On another note......my wife's 2010 turbo diesel Jetta wagen is awesome!!
Why....why....doesn't Toyota give us diesels??? (I know the answer to that!!)

The old Cali swap conundrum :sombrero:

I don't think there is a legal Cali swap option for this 4runner at least non that are worth the $$$$.

I think the basic rules are the engine has to be 1.)same age or newer 2.)and from the same vehicle class and 3.)sold in the US and 4.)still have all factory emission controls.

Tourag diesel
Mercedes diesel from E-class (vehicle class issue?)

Huge $$$ swaps

IIRC, it also has to pass whichever emissions controls are more strict - the donor or the vehicle's. So the Diesel would have to pass the gas engine emission test.

Lol - you aren't from California, are you?

It will be a problem in Cali.

I live california, have worked on a diesel swap and know several others who have done the same. I'm quite familiar with what needs to be done as well as the easier ways of getting it done.

Assuming someone is a member of AAA, this wouldn't be any problem to have titled/reg'd.
