Lost Coast 4x4's on the McGrew Trail

Our club headed up to Oregon for a run on the Mcgrew Trail.
No sun, not warm, no crowds, campground empty. We even threw in a dash of drama for the flavor.

It's a good story.

I'm concerned that there was no containment of the oil spill, no one grabbing hand-fulls of kitty litter. Did the mess get cleaned up?

Cool write up. Seeing as you are a member of the lost coast group, can you recommend a good route out there for a couple days of fun? I wanted to somehow drive Usal road and end up at aw way campground having any fun to be had on the way...

Well, I'm not sure if I can help much. I've been down that way but don't think I've driven Usal road.
I believe Usal is below Shelter Cove. Usal, then Shelter Cove and on the Shelter Cove to Redway road there's a turn north to Honeydew then west from Honeydew to Petrolia . The campground is before Petrolia. After Petrolia you can head west then north up the beach road and on to Ferndale(this route is called the 'Wildcat')
Here are some links with people talking about the area.

Negative. We blew it on that one. I don't think anyone had any absorbent with them. I'm going to try to get a few guy together (maybe in one rig for $$ savings) and make a day of it and get it cleaned up.
Thanks for pointing that out.:smilies27

Well, we went back up to the McGrew and cleaned up the mess we made last week. Wasn't easy but we gave it our best. Rather costly though.
Gas up, lunch and just as we arrived at the boulder, I spiked the left front tire and we all heard the 'cat hiss'. Nice 3" cut in the side wall reminiscent of my 06 trip to Mono Lake.

We kitty littered and scooped and washed and had a dandy ole' time. :jump:
