Low mileage 2002 G500

It appears to have a tcase issue, the rear bumper is in need of repair, the panel needs to be replaced. There are a few other dings that I see as well. It could easily cost 4-5k just to recondition this vehicle. I think it would be more appropriately priced in the 27K range.

For the noobs out there...

How can you tell there is a potential T-case issue? Is that the solid square above the "P" on the speedo display?

Yeah, it is the solid square. It could be one of two issues and the repair will range from $400-900. This tcase issue was very common on the 2002-03 model years. My guess is it would also need some locker repairs. They need to be exercised regularly.

I think read somewhere that if you have the issue with the t-case staying in 'H' you have to replace a motor that resides in the center console? Is that what's happening here?

It's hard to say, mine had this issue when I bought it and I had to replace the acuator on the case itself. I paid about $900 to have it replaced. It is easy to replace the actuator yourself but I did not have the time to deal with it.

That one has been around for about 6 months. Since I started looking. They are plentiful enough to hold out for one in very good condition, less the 100K miles and shoot for $25K. I found a west coast always car, up to date and more on maintenance, 80K miles, almost perfect interior, checked out excellent by Darren Collie autoworks for $25.5. It took me about 4 + months of calling and surfing around but they are out there.

it was driven by a blind old lady on a what im guessing was a fixed income, because the dealer service was clearly discontinued.

20g to buy and 10g to fix the drivetrain.

then you'll have a 2002 with 66k miles, which otherwise does sound appealing.

I am a complete, full, finished noob, in no mean a mercedes specialist or anything, dont know **** about cars and am driving suzuki swift 3 cill., FWD with no transfer case. I registered here to learn about cars and trucks and am very thankful that there are people which can diagnose a problem by just looking at picture. May I send a picture of my dash as my car is running bad lately and no one can find the problem.
Also I am working on a car wash and the other day we had a 2004 Mercedes C320 to be polished so I went in and noticed this same yellow square on the dash right on top of PRND, I told the owner that he needs a new transfer -case and he gave me $10 tip! Thanks a lot !
