LR partners with Bowler to produce rally-raid models

Bowler is a British company that builds off-road racing vehicles for events like the Dakar Rally. The Bowler Wildcat was based on a modified Discovery chassis, and the more recent EXR Nemesis model uses a tubular space frame with Jaguar V8 power. Competing against factory sponsored teams, Bowler Wildcat and Nemesis vehicles have placed well.

Now we get word that Land Rover has become an official partner with Bowler. LR will provide engines and factory support. Bowler will produce a road-legal version of the Nemesis, price $240K.

Here's a photo provided by Bowler of the Nemesis "racecar with a license plate."

Now what we need is for Overland Journal to compare the Nemesis with the Local Motors Rally Fighter, America's tube frame off-road kit car!

A) We probably won't see it here in the states.
B) 240K will put it out of reach for the vast majority of buyers.

First of all you need to get the nomenclature right, the new Bowler is the "EXR" and the street version is the "EXR-S" (!)
Sofar there only was a prototype of the "S" and the first production car will be presented at the Festival of Speed in Goodwood (UK) next weekend.

I had the opportunity to take the "EXR", the rally car, on a 4500mls tour around Europe the past weeks and am more in love with what the guys at Bowler build, than ever before.

Some images from my tour which sort of kicked of at the studios of Junction Eleven with the official photo shoot and then took me all the way down to Monaco and back up to Hamburg before returning to the UK.

After attending the photoshoot I took the Bowler EXR for a 4,500 mile tour of Europe, flying low at the Landmagia LR Club Italy meeting and taking it around the city course of Monaco

Oh, and the safest thing to do when encountering a police officer while driving a Bowler EXR?

Take him for a ride....

...and until the video that was shot last week is online, enjoy this one with the EXR and the prototype of the EXR-S

The on-road driving segment starts about 3 minutes into the video, the off-road driving at 7 minutes.

Looks to me like the Expeditions 7 group chose the wrong vehicles for their round-the-world drive!

Driving one of these for a day: Now that would be something for my bucket list :D Not to mention taking one of these to Baja :rally_guys: I guess my rally racing heritage (my Dad) just my passion for overlanding.

BTW, in the first video; is the phrase "objects are closer than they appear" on the right mirror written in Arab? Guess tells you which one of the main target market is for those vehicles.

Hay Haven, wasn't the Wildcat based off the Defender, Not the Disco???

Either way these are some fun looking rigs aye. Funny that at a time when LR's line up has never been LESS off-road capable that this turn of events transpires. Maybe this is step back in the right direction aye. I also wonder if anyone will get crazy enough to do something like this to one of those new Lambo Ute's running around the internet.

Cheers

Dave
