Make sure you check the weather reports as Dobbin Summit is pretty high and could get early snow by mid October.

You aren't kidding. We weren't originally planning to go through Hot Creek Canyon last March, but we got stopped by snow west of Tybo. Then west of Eagle Pass (it was clear) we got stopped by snow again on the east side of Barley Summit. By that point we were glad to have brought jerry cans. The injected 5 liter V8 in my Bronco has plenty of power, but it's not exactly economical.
