LR3 2005 vs Newer With More Miles

As far as features, not much. The 2007's have seats that worked without the ignition key, and one-touch passenger window, which is nice. The seat thing is pretty darn handy if you have kids and need to flip the middle seats up and down frequently. But the major change in 2007's was in the air compressor, suspension bushings, transmission mapping software, and lots of other little things, like upgraded rear swingarm bolts, etc... The LR3 was introduced in 2004 (2005 MY) and it took until 2007 for the factory to address the piddly stuff that went awry in the 2005/6's. The nice thing though, is that the mfr upgraded many of those items into the 2005/6's under warranty.

Years ago I wrote this article on buying a used LR3:

What is different about a 2007 Hitachi compressor and a 2006 Hitachi compressor?

I don't think the 2006's had the new compressor right off the factory floor, but the 2007's did. I'm not 100% sure of that, but I'm about 87% sure :)

There was a recall that applied to 05-06 LR3's for a compressor upgrade, but it just involved reworking the original. I've had hundreds of these off and never noticed a difference. The AMK compressor didn't come out until the LR4.

The '06 @ 80K is probably getting close to needing new lower control arms, the 05 will probably be OK for a while despite the aging bushings. If the 06 has had this service done, then again, clear winner.

My biggest complaint that was solved in later years is that the electronic seat adjusters are tied to the ignition, so you cant move the front seats around with the vehicle off. This is especially annoying since my wife is shorter than I am so I have to move the seat back after she drive it and I can't do it before climbing in and starting it.

Many early bushings barely made it to 50k miles.

I agree that the most annoying issue is no seat memory and key in ignition for moving the seats in my '06 SE. Kills me sometimes. Also, I like the fact that I hit my range rover unlock button once for all locks, not twice. Other than that, the LR3 is an amazing machine.

My roveritis has spread... I have since converted 3 close friends/family to purchase an LR3 or LR4 in the past 6 months based on them driving ours. It truly is the best luxury/utility/offroad vehicle with 7 seats.

What ?
Lr3 key fob is programmable and it allows you to unlock all doors a the press of the button or just a driver's side , if you wish .
